In sport, the Third Division, also called Division 3, Division Three, or Division III, is often the third highest division of a league, and will often have promotion and relegation with divisions above and below.
Division or divider may refer to:
III (iii) may refer to:
Division III (or DIII) is a division of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) of the United States. The division consists of colleges and universities that choose not to offer athletically related financial aid (athletic scholarships) to their student-athletes.
As explained in more detail in the article about NCAA Division II, the NCAA's first split was into two divisions. The former College Division formed because many NCAA member schools wanted an alternative to the expensive nature of what is now Division I. Division III formed in 1973, in a split of the College Division. The former College Division members that chose to offer athletic scholarships or to remain in a division with those who did became Division II, while members that did not became Division III.
Division III is the NCAA’s largest division (approximately 40% of total membership) with 438 active member institutions (450 both full and provisional). Of the member institutions, 81% are private, while only 19% are public. Division III schools range in size from a minimum undergraduate enrollment of 348 to a maximum of 21,247, but the average enrollment is 2,717.
Football is a family of team sports that involve, to varying degrees, kicking a ball to score a goal. Unqualified, the word football is understood to refer to whichever form of football is the most popular in the regional context in which the word appears. Sports commonly called 'football' in certain places include: association football (known as soccer in some countries); gridiron football (specifically American football or Canadian football); Australian rules football; rugby football (either rugby league or rugby union); and Gaelic football. These different variations of football are known as football codes.
Various forms of football can be identified in history, often as popular peasant games. Contemporary codes of football can be traced back to the codification of these games at English public schools during the nineteenth century. The expanse of the British Empire allowed these rules of football to spread to areas of British influence outside of the directly controlled Empire, though by the end of the nineteenth century, distinct regional codes were already developing: Gaelic football, for example, deliberately incorporated the rules of local traditional football games in order to maintain their heritage. In 1888, The Football League was founded in England, becoming the first of many professional football competitions. During the twentieth century, several of the various kinds of football grew to become some of the most popular team sports in the world.

For my final English paper, I decided to argue that DIII athletics were superior to DI. My thesis, that "while both Division I and Division III have their advantages, DIII athletics provide a stronger environment for college success. Their focus on schooling over athletics allows students to have proper motivations, more commitment to academics, and puts them under less pressure, ultimately resulting in a better college experience". We were required to create a multi-media companion to our paper, and though this is just a small part of my overall discussion, it serves as a great compliment to my overall thesis. Thank you to all my teammates who answered my survey! *I do not own the song in this video. "Break Free" belongs to Like A Storm and all other owners. No copyright intended*

This ensemble comedy follows the Pullham University Bluecocks, a small liberal arts college with a Division III football program (the lowest division in the NCAA). When the head coach unexpectedly dies, the future of the flailing football program is in jeopardy, as they have not had a winning season in decades. In a desperate attempt to create some media attention for the athletic program and the university, President Georgia Anne Whistler hires known lunatic and felon, Coach Rick Vice, for what could be the football programs final season. Vice, an overly aggressive redneck racist, quickly becomes the team's and athletic director's worst nightmare. Vice especially butts heads with Mitch DePrima, a reluctant quarterback who was drawn to the college thinking he would play ball as a big fish ...
Part of N-C-double-A Division three athletics' mission statement is to provide a well-rounded collegiate experience for student-athletes that encourages participation. While more than a hundred and fifty thousand athletes are recruited to D-three universities each year, many of them may get cut from the team before the season ever begins. Elizabeth Weinstein has more on how D-three schools recruit and why some student-athletes may never have the chance to play their sport at the collegiate level.
