Cher, 71, wears Turn Back Time replica outfit for Billboard Awards 2017 performance

46 reading now

What better way to celebrate your 71st birthday by rocking out in the skimpiest of outfits and taking the Billboard Music Icon award.

Cher made one of the biggest impacts of the night at the Las Vegas ceremony as she performed 1998 hit Believe in a barely-there nude bikini and beaded outfit. She then followed it with her 1989 smash If I Could Turn Back Time for which she sported a strappy leotard similar to the outfit she wore for the song's memorable video, complete with massive curly black wig and thigh-length boots.

Cher's outfit stuns 2017 Billboard Awards

After Cher's five decades in showbusiness, the 71-year-old turned back time, proving she was worthy of the Billboard Music Icon award.

The singer, who started her career in 1962 after she met Sonny Bono who was then working for producer Phil Spector, marked her 71st birthday on May 20.

On accepting the award, given to her on stage by Gwen Stefani, she paid tribute to her mother.

"I want to thank my mom because when I was really young, my mom said, 'You're not going to be the smartest. You're not going to be the prettiest. You're not going to be the most talented. But you're going to be special,"' she said. "And when I met Sonny, he said the same thing. And there was really nothing about me that led anyone to believe that I was going to be special."

She paid tribute to all the people she has worked with over her five decades in showbusiness during which she's sold more than 100 million records, staged multiple comebacks and remained a fierce activist, most notably as an outspoken critic of Donald Trump.

"I think luck has had so much to do with my success," she told the Billboard audience. "I think it was luck and a little bit of something thrown in."
