Forget Snakes on a Plane, this is Snakes in the Carseat – up close and personal.

In news sure to scare us off road safety for life, a US mum has warned other parents of the dangers of leaving your child's car seat outside overnight after she discovered a snake in hers.

Devon Michelle Aucoin had taken the seat out of the car and left it out overnight, and found a snake had taken up residence in the back as she was reinstalling it in the car.

"Parents, don't leave car seats outside overnight," she wrote on Facebook. "Yesterday evening I sat our car seat outside next to the front door so I could put it in my car this morning. After installing it, I noticed a few ants on it so I took it back out [of] the car and took off all the covers to make sure there weren't any more ants."

A great lesson follows for those parents (like me) who would have just brushed the ants off and started driving to kindy.

"Thankfully I did because – to my surprise – there was a SNAKE curled up inside the adjustment base."

Devon is frankly pretty calm about this whole event, saying that she's learnt her lesson and will never leave a car seat outside again. Others might glean a different lesson, such as the need to set the house on fire and never ever go back there again.

The post has been shared over 35,000 times on Facebook and, although some have questioned why she would leave the seat outside to begin with, many others have done the same themselves.

The entire world has agreed to never leave a car seat outside again.
