Severe weather warning for Perth and the South West

A severe weather warning has been issued for the Perth Metropolitan area and the South West and Great Southern regions as a heavy storm front bears down.

The Bureau of Meteorology said people living in Perth, Albany, Bunbury, Busselton, Mandurah, Manjimup, Margaret River and Mount Barker should prepare for heavy rainfall and strong winds.

The bureau said bad weather is not unusual for this time of year, but could damage homes and make travel dangerous.

A cold front is moving over the southwest of WA on Saturday evening and early Sunday morning, and the bureau warns it could bring thunderstorms and winds of up to 100 kilometres per hour, potentially causing damage to homes and property.

Drivers are advised to take extra care on the roads, including switching headlights, ensuring safe braking distance and allowing extra travel time.
