The Great Basin Desert is part of the Great Basin between the Sierra Nevada and the Wasatch Range. The desert is a geographical region that largely overlaps the Great Basin shrub steppe defined by the World Wildlife Fund, and the Central Basin and Range ecoregion defined by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and United States Geological Survey. It is a temperate desert with hot, dry summers and snowy winters. The desert spans a large part of the state of Nevada, and extends into western Utah, eastern California, and Idaho. The desert is one of the four biologically defined deserts in North America, in addition to the Mojave, Sonoran, and Chihuahuan Deserts.
Basin and Range topography characterizes the desert: wide valleys bordered by parallel mountain ranges generally oriented north-south. There are more than 33 peaks within the desert with summits higher than 9,800 feet (3,000 m), but valleys in the region are also high, most with elevations above 3,900 feet (1,200 m). The biological communities of the Great Basin Desert vary according to altitude: from low salty dry lakes, up through rolling sagebrush valleys, to pinyon-juniper forests. The significant variation between valleys and peaks has created a variety of habitat niches, which has in turn led to many small, isolated populations of genetically unique plant and animal species throughout the region. According to Grayson, more than 600 species of vertebrates live in the floristic Great Basin, which has a similar areal footprint to the ecoregion. Sixty-three of these species have been identified as species of conservation concern due to contracting natural habitats (for example, Centrocercus urophasianus, Vulpes macrotis, Dipodomys ordii, and Phrynosoma platyrhinos).
Nevada (Spanish for "snow covered") is a state in the Western, Mountain West, and Southwestern regions of the United States of America. Nevada is the 7th most extensive, the 35th most populous, and the 9th least densely populated of the 50 United States. Nearly three-quarters of Nevada's people live in Clark County, which contains the Las Vegas–Paradise metropolitan area where three of the state's four largest incorporated cities are located. Nevada's capital is Carson City. Nevada is officially known as the "Silver State" due to the importance of silver to its history and economy. It is also known as the "Battle Born State", because it achieved statehood during the Civil War (the words "Battle Born" also appear on the state flag); as the "Sagebrush State", for the native plant of the same name; and as "Sage hen State". Nevada borders Oregon to the northwest, Idaho to the northeast, California to the west, Arizona to the southeast and Utah to the east.
Nevada is largely desert and semiarid, much of it located within the Great Basin. Areas south of the Great Basin are located within the Mojave Desert, while Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada lie on the western edge. About 86% of the state's land is managed by various jurisdictions of the U.S. federal government, both civilian and military.
Burning Man is an annual gathering that takes place at Black Rock City—a temporary community erected in the Black Rock Desert in Nevada. The event is described as an experiment in community and art, influenced by 10 main principles, including "radical" inclusion, self-reliance and self-expression, as well as community cooperation, gifting and decommodification, and leaving no trace. First held in 1986 on Baker Beach in San Francisco as a small function organized by Larry Harvey and a group of friends, it has since been held annually, spanning from the last Sunday in August to the first Monday in September (the U.S. Labor Day); for example, Burning Man 2015 took place August 30 – September 7, 2015.
At Burning Man the community explores various forms of artistic self-expression, created in celebration for the pleasure of all participants. Participation is a key precept for the community – selfless giving of one's unique talents for the enjoyment of all is encouraged and actively reinforced. Some of these generous out-pourings of creativity can include experimental and interactive sculpture, building, performance, and art cars among other mediums, often inspired by the yearly theme, chosen by organizers. The event takes its name from its culmination, the symbollic, ritual burning of a large wooden effigy ("the Man") that traditionally occurs on the Saturday evening of the event.
The United States Air Force facility commonly known as Area 51 is a remote detachment of Edwards Air Force Base, within the Nevada Test and Training Range. According to the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), the correct names for the facility are Homey Airport (ICAO: KXTA) and Groom Lake, though the name Area 51 was used in a CIA document from the Vietnam War. Other names used for the facility include Dreamland, and nicknames Paradise Ranch,Home Base and Watertown. The special use airspace around the field is referred to as a Restricted Area 4808 North (R-4808N).
The base's current primary purpose is publicly unknown; however, based on historical evidence, it most likely supports development and testing of experimental aircraft and weapons systems (black projects). The intense secrecy surrounding the base has made it the frequent subject of conspiracy theories and a central component to unidentified flying object (UFO) folklore. Although the base has never been declared a secret base, all research and occurrences in Area 51 are Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI). In July 2013, following an FOIA request filed in 2005, the CIA publicly acknowledged the existence of the base for the first time, declassifying documents detailing the history and purpose of Area 51.
FMN, abbreviated from Forget Me Not, is a 24 hours teledrama channel, the first one in Indonesia, formerly known as Vision 2 Drama or Televiva. The channel was launched in 2005, and broadcast by Indovision and Okevision. All programs are dubbed in Indonesian. Originally, the channel shows teledramas from Asia, Latin America, Korea and Taiwan, however, after rebranding as FMN, the channel now focuses on showing Latin American and Turkish teledramas.
I decided to finally take a remote back-road "trick route" I'd always wanted to try bypassing Tonopah on the way up from Las Vegas to Reno, Nevada. Wow, what a strange trip! A little single lane road in the middle of nowhere complete with a bizarre, sort of spooky and creepy (in a way), semi-ghost town! One of the oddest abandoned places we've seen in our years of desert travel. In over 2 hours of driving we saw not ONE other car...nor a single human being. Even when driving through the little town itself. Abandoned cars, trucks..even abandoned soda machines! But not a soul did we see! Haha..I thought being so close to area 51...maybe the aliens abducted everyone! Looks kinda like Fallout New Vegas or Nuketown. a scene straight from GTA! This is why we LOVE Nevada!! No place like it on Ea...
Driving between Las Vegas and Reno Nevada on Hwy 95, you come across the strange little semi - abandoned town of Goldfield. I often wonder what people do for a living here because really, there is pretty much nothing around for miles. This spooky town is very close to the infamous and kinda creepy Area 51. Abandoned cars in the streets and yards, abandoned homes, storage containers out in the open, deserted buildings, closed businesses all boarded up...it just seems so weird when you come from a large city environment! We LOVE it though...it's so unique! Just one of the many crazy sights you'll come across exploring the Nevada desert...truly...there is nothing quite like it! ~Kenneth King Bear

Driving North from Las Vegas we encounter the "Area 51 Circle" as I call it.... way out in the Nevada Desert. A vast area of odd UFO sightings, Military bases, strange quirky towns, abandoned cars and trucks and all manner of weirdness! Totally fascinating! One of the first funky towns we hit along the route is Beatty, Nevada. Entering Beatty from the South is a unique experience. You drive for a hundred miles out of Vegas and see almost nothing but desert....then you come across what looks like a permanent Flea Market. A mile long line of folks in tents, trailers and creaky buildings selling roadside treasures. It's a 7 day a week thing....and it's pretty interesting! This is the south entrance to Beatty! A very old town from the early days of the West....Beatty has a lot of cool heritage...

Took the kids for a metal detecting weekend adventure to "Area 51" somewhere in the Nevada desert. What a great trip, the kids found some very nice gold, almost a half ounce! I love going on adventures with these two kids. What a great trip!
Bursts of creativity, art, love and lots of dust! This film was shot at the 2012 Burning Man-festival in the Black Rock Desert in Nevada. Such a beautiful place! Filmed in the Arizona Desert outside Phoenix and in the Nevada desert around Las Vegas. I have taken my time before posting footage. I first flew a Phantom at the beginning of Feb but haven't had much opportunity to practise my flying skills as I live in London under the Heathrow flight path! There is a lot to learn and as you can see in this edit the best shots, well I think so, are the really controlled slow shots where I held my composition around the cacti. I still am nowhere near good yet. I need the controls to be second nature. The effective reversing of them when facing different ways stills screws with my head the same way switching between Canon and Nikon glass does with it's opposing focus direction! A full review of this and my Phantom 2 with Zenmuse 2 axis gimbal for the ...

^^^ press CC for subtitles ^^^ What is Burning Man…? It depends on who tells you, and how it’s told. It depends on whether it’s your first time or if you are a veteran, if you go alone or accompanied. It even depends on the alignment of the stars that year. This summer, the partners of La Despensa agency, faithful attending the BM for 7 years, decided to take all their staff with them to the desert of Nevada. And as it seemed that there was some more room in the 11 caravans that went to Black Rock City, they decided to invite some more crew to share this adventure with them. Thus I was fortunate to join the group of 51 cosmonauts and tell, with my little camera, how was the experience.
