The nights have just got a whole lot colder. Time, then, to make sure your kids' nightwear will keep them toasty through the winter nights.
Our round-up includes something for all ages and budgets.
1. Dog Tired Pyjamas Upton Set: £30, Dog Tired
These are made for kids aged eight and above and are particularly good for teenagers, who like the mix-and-match bottoms and tops. They feature relaxed and simple styles, while the organic cotton is lovely and soft.
2. Wheat Yoke Pyjamas: £29.50, Four Fairies and a Prince
Wheat uses high quality cottons and fabrics that seem to last and last, regardless of how often they go in the washing machine. This 100 per cent cotton pair, available for two- to five-year-olds, is warm and features red and pink stripes.
3. Next Stripe/Star Pyjamas Set: from £22, Next
You can always count on Next for good value packs-of-three pyjamas, which allow you to switch up the combinations. Our favourites were these red and blue designs which wash particularly well. From nine months to eight years.
4. Little Bird by Jools Apple Pyjamas: from £12, Mothercare
Jools Oliver (married to Jamie) grew up in the Seventies, an era that has inspired her label Little Bird. We love these stretchy and breathable cotton PJs with a fun, retro apple print. There’s an alternative animal print too, with similarly bold colours. From nine months to eight years.
5. Pixie Dixie Paint Your Own Pyjamas: £29.99, Pixie Dixie
This plain white pair, available for two- to 12-year-olds, comes in a kit with four fabric paints, paintbrush and full instructions on how children can create their own designs that don’t run when washed. Made of 100 per cent cotton, the PJs are snuggly, roomy without being oversized and have no need for ironing.
6. Mini Boden Cosy Single Long Johns: from £19.50, Boden
This space-inspired pair, available from age two to 14, washes so well you can easily use them as hand-me-downs. They’re snugger than most kids’ PJs but the high-quality fabric means children never get clammy wearing them. Also available in a dinosaur design.
7. My Little Shop Plaid Pyjamas: £49, My Little Shop
These PJs don’t come cheap, but they are handmade in Spain with cotton that is cool to the touch, yet really cosy, and finished with the finest stitching. Provided you only wash them at 30 degrees, they will last and last. From four to 12 years.
8. Bluezoo Girls' Night In PJs: from £12, Debenhams
These pyjamas are both fun and practical. Kids will like the beauty-themed top and stripy bottoms, while parents will like that they’re machine washable and you can get away with not ironing them. From four to 14 years.
9. Vertbaudet Pack of 2 Girls Mix and Match Pyjamas: from £17, Vertbaudet
If your child loves creating their own look, then this mix-and-match nightwear set – available from ages two to 14 – is spot on. They are beautifully soft and, unlike many PJs, the trousers aren’t ridiculously long or tight.
10. Monty Pyjamas: £27, Not On The High Street
This vintage British soldier and flag print, with red piping, is delightful. Loose-fitting, without being too big, they are more lightweight than they look and feel lovely against the skin, as well as coming with a handy pouch. From one to 12 years.
11. Toby Tiger Girls' Flower Pyjamas: £28.99, House of Fraser
Aimed at those aged one to six years old, these brushed cotton pyjamas are extremely comfy and come with a little matching bag that kids will love taking to sleepovers. The flower design will cheer up even the gloomiest of winter mornings.
12. Hatley Girls' Flower Hearts Shortie Pyjamas: £21, John Lewis
Some kids hate the feel of long sleeves and trousers at night, even in the dead of winter. This cheery, brightly coloured and well-made set in pure cotton includes shorts, so is a great alternative. Available from two to 12 years.
13. Fabric Flavours Boys' Star Wars Pyjamas: £28, House of Fraser
Got a Star Wars obsessive in the house? They’ll love this set. Much of the nightwear themed around the new film is gimmicky and poorly made, but not so with these 100 per cent cotton PJs, featuring the Jedi Knights. From three to 10 years.
14. Jigsaw Star Pyjama Set: from £25: Jigsaw
These comfy PJs have an elasticated waist, with buttons down the front and patch pocket, as well as a handy pouch to store them in – perfect for travel. The design, which is available in cream or pink, has contrast edging. From four to 14 years.
Verdict
For something a bit different, we love Pixie Dixie Paint Your Own Pyjamas. For older kids, you really can’t go wrong with Dog Tired’s Upton Set.
