Who We Are
We are an interdisciplinary community of scholars, practitioners, advocates, and students interested in the application of critical, scientific, and humanistic perspectives to the study of vital social problems.
What Our Members Say
"The first article of the first issue of Social Problems in June, 1953 was titled "The Aims of the Society for the Study of Social Problems," by Ernest W. Burgess, the Society's first President. He offered two primary visions for SSSP: The Society would offer support to those working to understand and resolve social problems and it would promote scholarship that provided, "knowledge for sound social action." I have been a member of SSSP for many years and believe the people and the meetings continue to foster such a sense of both community and commitment to scholarship in pursuit of social justice. This I cherish."
