In this DROPS video we show how to knit Fishermans Rib. This large fluffy rib is identical on both sides. It's great for scarves, blankets etc.
We knit back and forth on needles, using an uneven number of sts.
1st row: 1 edge st in garter, *K1, yo, slip 1 st as if purled*, rep *-*, end with K1, 1 edge st in garter.
2nd row: 1 edge st in garter, *yo, slip 1 st as if purled, K next st and yo tog*, rep *-*, end with yo, slip 1 st as if purled, 1 edge st in garter.

Rib
In vertebrate anatomy, ribs (Latin: costae) are the long curved bones which form the rib cage. In most tetrapods, ribs surround the chest, enabling the lungs to expand and thus facilitate breathing by expanding the chest cavity. They serve to protect the lungs, heart, and other internal organs of the thorax. In some animals, especially snakes, ribs may provide support and protection for the entire body.
Human anatomy
Humans have 24 ribs (12 pairs). The first seven sets of ribs, known as "true ribs" (costae verae) also known as vertebrosternal ribs, are directly attached to the sternum through the costal cartilage. Rib 1 is unique and harder to distinguish than other ribs. It is a short, flat, C-shaped bone. The vertebral attachment can be found just below the neck and the majority of this bone can be found above the level of the clavicle. Ribs 2 through 7 have a more traditional appearance and become longer and less curved as they progress downwards. The following five sets are known as "false ribs" (costae spuriae), three of these sharing a common cartilaginous connection to the sternum, while the last two (eleventh and twelfth ribs) are termed floating ribs (costae fluctuantes) or vertebral ribs. They are attached to the vertebrae only, and not to the sternum or cartilage coming off of the sternum. Some people lack one of the two pairs of floating ribs, while others have a third pair.

Standing rib roast
A standing rib roast, also known as prime rib, is a cut of beef from the primal rib, one of the nine primal cuts of beef. While the entire rib section comprises ribs six through 12, a standing rib roast may contain anywhere from two to seven ribs.
It is most often roasted "standing" on the rib bones so that the meat does not touch the pan. An alternative cut removes the top end of the ribs for easier carving.
Rib eye steaks are cut from a standing rib, boned with most of the fat and lesser muscles removed.
While often referred to as a “prime rib”, the USDA does not require the cut "to be derived from USDA Prime grade beef".
Characteristics
A slice of standing rib roast will include portions of the so-called "eye" of the rib, as well as the outer, fat-marbled muscle (spinalis dorsi) known as the "lip" or "cap". The traditional preparation for a standing rib roast is to rub the outside of the roast with salt and seasonings and slow-roast with dry heat. It also may be grilled.

In this DROPS video we show how to knit Fishermans Rib. This large fluffy rib is identical on both sides. It's great for scarves, blankets etc.
We knit back and forth on needles, using an uneven number of sts.
1st row: 1 edge st in garter, *K1, yo, slip 1 st as if purled*, rep *-*, end with K1, 1 edge st in garter.
2nd row: 1 edge st in garter, *yo, slip 1 st as if purled, K next st and yo tog*, rep *-*, end with yo, slip 1 st as if purled, 1 edge st in garter.

We knit back and forth on needles, using an uneven number of sts.
