The best dressed-men at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week 2017

If you don't make it on to at least one best-dressed blog during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, are you even there?

While the main attraction is traditionally inside, on the runway, for many (maybe most) in attendance it's about making sure the paps are snapping you as you make your way in. Regardless of whether or not you're even seeing something.

But the flipside of all this frippery is that it shows Aussie blokes really making an effort with their daily clobber.

Who said that Aussie men lacked style?

Indeed, local lads are not only developing a reputation for sartorial excellence but aggressively making sure you know it too, happily pausing for street photographers and requisite selfies at the entrance.

It could have had something to do with the unofficial statement that this year's Fashion Week boasted the most menswear collections in recent history, including American model Garrett Neff's applauded swimwear range Katama.

But regardless of the why, the simple fact remains our fellow gents are looking damn good.

Like clockwork

All-white looks were a big favourite, teamed with black footwear a la A Clockwork Orange. Not an easy look to pull off, but one that worked well among the more colourful ensembles. A nice reminder that sometimes simple is always best.

Loose legs

Some stragglers are still holding on to their skinny jeans (or are just struggling to get them off) but loose fitting pants are the way forward. Cropped at the ankle, or rolled, and sitting fairly high on the waist, it's a 1940s feel that promises a far more comfortable future.

Hats ahoy

Sydney weather held up to its fine reputation with blue skies all week, so these accessories were probably just as much for their practical use as they were for the aesthetic. Stetsons, akubras, and even the bucket hat were spotted on well-coiffed heads.

Sk8rs style

As far as footwear was concerned, Vans could have been sponsoring the event. Where it was once the iconic Stan Smith from Adidas sported by the fashion set, skate shoes are what's so hot right now. Bonus points for getting them in bright colours.

Tucked in

It's not for everyone, but tucking in your T-shirt is now a thing. It's a rather pleasant contrast to the cut-off denim that's also making the rounds. Teamed with a bomber and beanie and your set for a winter look that's sharp.
