Perth vet deregistered after prac students perform surgery on animals

A Booragoon vet has been deregistered and ordered to pay $200,000 after she allowed veterinary students on placement to perform surgery on animals.

The State Administrative Tribunal found Elizabeth-Jo Willot Vickridge guilty of breaching the Veterinary Surgeons Regulations Act between July 2010 and February 2013.

The judgement said the Tribunal was satisfied Ms Willot Vickridge should face disciplinary action due to the breach.

"The respondent breached the Vet Act when she permitted her employees and veterinary students, whom she allowed to undertake Extramural Placement at her practice, to perform acts of veterinary surgery and to provide veterinary services in breach of the Vet Act and Vet Regulations," it said.

Ms Willot Vickridge was registered as a veterinary surgeon, and is the owner of the Rabbit Shop & Medical Clinic in Booragoon. Ms Willot Vickeridge has also worked as a consultant for Fear Free Pet Services and Vet Social Media Marketing.

As a result of the decision Ms Willot Vickridge has been ordered to pay $100,000 by May 30 and a further $100,000 over the course of two years.

Ms Willot Vickridge will also be removed from the Register of Veterinary Surgeons in WA on August 14.

Ms Willot Vickridge declined to comment.
