Corley

Corley (and the associated hamlets of Corley Ash and Corley Moor) is a village and civil parish in the North Warwickshire district of Warwickshire, England. The population at the 2011 census was 668. It is located about 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) northwest of Coventry and is adjacent to the village of Fillongley. The M6 motorway runs close by, and the village is familiar to motorists as it is the site of Corley Services. Other significant buildings in the area include Corley Hall, which was built in the 16th century.

The parish church of St Mary dates from the 12th century and is a Grade II* listed building.

Corley is also home to Corley Cricket Club, which entered its 65th season in 2012. One of the club's most notable former players is James Ormond, who went on to represent England. The club has also seen many of its players compete at county level, including Race Williams and John Wilson, the latter representing Leicestershire young cricketers.

Following a nationwide competition in 2012 Corley beat over 1500 other cricket clubs to be awarded the title of "Biggest Little Cricket Club" - The most loved and worthy in England and Wales. Club representatives have been invited to the National Outstanding Contribution to Cricket Awards ceremony at Lord's Cricket Ground on two separate occasions since 2011 following nominations from the Warwickshire Cricket Board. On July 14, 2013 Corley CC hosted the famous Lashings World XI, one the biggest game in the club's history. Richard Lamb took a particularly liking to the Lashing's attack, hitting a belligerent 57 from 61 deliveries.

Al Corley

Al Corley (born May 22, 1956 in Wichita, Kansas) is an American actor, singer and producer. In the late 1970s, he worked as a doorman at Studio 54. He would later appear in a VH1 Behind the Music special on Studio 54 to recount his experiences.

Corley is best known as the first actor to play Steven Carrington on the 1980s soap opera Dynasty. After that, Corley acted in 14 movies, then produced five. Corley left Dynasty at the end of the second season in 1982 after complaining publicly in Interview that "Steven doesn't have any fun... He doesn't laugh; he has no humor," and also about Steven's "ever-shifting sexual preferences" and wanting "to do other things". The character was recast in 1983 with Jack Coleman; the change in appearance attributed to plastic surgery after an oil rig explosion. Coleman remained on the show until 1988, but Corley returned to the role of Steven for the 1991 miniseries Dynasty: The Reunion when Coleman was unavailable due to scheduling conflicts.

He was also known as a singer in the 1980s. His 1984 single "Square Rooms", from his debut album of the same name became a number one hit in France (in 1985), also reaching No. 6 in Switzerland, No. 12 in Italy (in 1985), No. 13 in Germany, No. 15 in Austria and No. 80 in the U.S. The same year, he released "Cold Dresses", which was also a big hit in France, reaching No. 5. His second album, Riot of Color was released in 1986, and a third album, Big Picture followed in 1988.

DeMarcus Corley

DeMarcus Deon "Chop Chop" Corley (born June 3, 1974) is an American professional boxer. He is a former WBO, NABF and USBA light welterweight champion. He also designs his own boxing attire.

Amateur career

Corley was an amateur standout, and won the National Golden Gloves Light Welterweight Championship in 1995.

Pro career

Corley began boxing professionally on May 17, 1996, knocking out Aaron Smith in the first round.

WBO light welterweight champion

He would not lose a match until 1999, against Daniel Lujan. Later that year in his 22nd bout with a record of 21 wins 1 defeat (11KO) he faced Ener Julio for the USBA light welterweight title, he won via a 12 round split decision. He later defeated Ener Julio again to defend his WBO light welterweight belt (which he would later lose to future undisputed welterweight champion Zab Judah).

Inactive period and return

He took 2002 off from boxing to recover from the murder of his brother. He returned to the ring on January 4, 2003.

In 2006 he fought Junior Witter for the vacant WBC light welterweight championship, losing a wide decision in a very tactical bout.

Square Rooms

"Square Rooms" is a song by American singer and actor Al Corley. It was the first single from his debut album of the same name. First released in 1984, the song was a hit in some European countries and had a moderate success in the United States in 1985.

Background and writing

After two seasons playing one of the first gay leading characters an American TV series, Dynasty, Al Corley left the nighttime soap opera to become a singer. With Harold Faltermeyer and Peter John Woods, he composed the text of his first song, "Square Rooms."

The media-savvy singer affected the brooding look and attitude popular among pop stars and GQ models at the time: pouty, dark glances and tousled hair. His choice of image worked best in France, where his television performances elicited the unbridled enthusiasm of teenage girls. However, according to Elia Habib, a French charts specialist, his success was not only based on his physical appearance. Indeed, "Square Rooms"' music had a large popular appeal and had a production designed for the dance floor. It was produced and composed by the German musician Harold Faltermeyer, who had previously arranged "Self Control", a worldwide pop and dance-floor smash for Laura Branigan in 1984 which featured a similar vocal hook. Faltermeyer would achieve his greatest personal success later the same year, composing, performing and producing the score to Beverly Hills Cop, a 1984 film directed by Martin Brest, including its hit instrumental theme, "Axel F".
