This is the intense moment caught on film of a bold lion sneaking up on an unsuspecting leopard having a nap.
Matthew Poole (26), a professional guide at &beyond;’s Kirkman’s Camp in the Sabi Sands, watched this exciting scene play itself out right before him and his excited guests.
“By far the rarest sighting in my guiding career!” Matthew told us.
Matthew continued: “On October 04th 2016, we had started our game drive in search of leopard.
After hearing a male leopard had been found we all got excited and headed into the area.
The male leopard started to walk along the banks of the Sand river scent marking all the way. It was at this moment we noticed the male lion lying in the river on the opposite bank.
I said to my guests 'Can you imagine if these 2 dominant males came together'. It seemed as if my words weren’t cold because shortly after that the male leopard went to sleep and the lion started to stalk him from the other side of the river.”
Matthew stated that he had mixed emotions as this sighting started to unfold.
There was a lot of excitement and nerves building as the male lion started to stalk from across the Sand River.
As the lion got closer to the leopard, Matthew realized that if he caught the leopard, then he would potentially kill it. “At this point I started to warn my guests about what could happen.” But, before they knew it, the lion was right below the sleeping leopard!
Fortunately, the lion didn’t kill the leopard, but the sneaky lion scared the living daylights out of the leopard.
“The lion drove the leopard into a Leadwood tree on the river bank and then had a drink and moved off out of the area”.

Anacondas make their home in the Amazon jungles of South America and are part of the Boa Constrictor family. Anacondas live near rivers, lakes and swamps and like to live alone. Water is their main escape method when confronted with danger. Rather than attacking they will choose to slide into the water unnoticed,
The average size of one of these snake-giants is 6.1 m (20 feet) long and 148.5 kg. (300 pounds)!
Anacondas give birth to live young, around 24-35 at a time.
Anacondas are very difficult for scientists to study or even find. They are really quiet and leave no trail. They spend a lot of their time in the dark waters of their habitat. ..

Leopards are classified as near threatened by the IUCN's Red List of Threatened Species. This listing is due to their declining population, which is caused by habitat loss and hunting. It is estimated that there are only 30 currently living in the wild.

The name "leopard" comes from the Greek word leopardus, which is a combination of leon (lion) and pardus (panther), according to PBS Nature.
Leopards don't need much water. They survive from the moisture they get from eating their prey.
It is no wonder that leopards are such great hunters. They can run up to 36 mph (58 kph), jump forward 20 feet (6 meters) and leap 10 feet (3 m) straight up, according to the San Diego Zoo.
Though classified as a roaring cat, leopards usually bark when they have something to say.
Leopards' ears can hear five times more sounds that the human ear.
The leopard's spots are called rosettes because they look like roses.
The genus Leopardus does not include leopards. Members of that genus include cats of Central and South America, such as ocelots, oncillas, margays, Pampas cats, Geoffrey's cat, guiñas and Andean cats.African Lion.
Last year the US Fish and Wildlife Services announced that African lions may be facing extinction by the year 2050. The agency proposed listing the lions as “threatened” under the Endangered Species Act. According to Scientific American:5
“The decision to list the big cats as threatened—one level below endangered—would allow the U.S. government to provide some level of training and assistance for on-the-ground conservation efforts and restrict the sale of lion parts or hunting trophies into the country or across state lines.”
The greatest threats facing lions are habitat loss, loss of prey (largely due to the bushmeat trade), and human-lion conflict, including sport hunting and retaliation kills, in which lions are killed after attacking area livestock.6
There are only about 34,000 lions left in Africa, which is about half the number that existed 30 years ago. About 70 percent of these animals live in just 10 regions of the continent, mostly in southern and eastern Africa. In West Africa, fewer than 250 adult lions remain.

This leopard got himself into a dangerous pickle, or should we say prickle ;), when the temptation to take on two of these well-armored creatures proved to be an agonizing experience indeed…
This amazing sighting was captured by 28 year old Donovan Piketh.
Donovan told LatestSightings.com through our Film and Earn program: “We were following the leopard as it was just walking along when my friend spotted the 2 porcupines walking towards the leopard. As soon as the leopard saw them it changed into stalking mode and we knew something was going to happen.
It was a mixture of over excitement and panic as I was trying to get the camera onto video mode and focus on what was going on.
This was the first time I have ever seen porcupines and what a way to see them.
The leopard gave chase after the one porcupine, and then he focused his efforts on tackling the second. He was definitely the one that came off worse for wear that day while the porcupines managed to scurry off unscathed.
The leopard needed to spend a good few minutes to get the quills out of him. Eventually, the leopard gave up trying to get the last of the porcupine’s quills out and walked off into the bush.
I think it was very rare and something you will only ever see a leopard do once… hahaha…"

Leopard
The leopard (Panthera pardus) is one of the five "big cats" in the genus Panthera. It is a member of the family Felidae with a wide range in regions of sub-Saharan Africa, West Asia, the Middle East, South and Southeast Asia to Siberia. Fossil records found in Italy suggest that in the Pleistocene it ranged as far as Europe.
Compared to other members of Felidae, the leopard has relatively short legs and a long body with a large skull. It is similar in appearance to the jaguar, but is smaller and more lightly built. Its fur is marked with rosettes similar to those of the jaguar, but the leopard's rosettes are smaller and more densely packed, and do not usually have central spots as the jaguar's do. Both leopards and jaguars that are melanistic are known as black panthers.
The leopard's success in the wild is due to its well camouflaged fur; its opportunistic hunting behaviour, broad diet, and strength to move heavy carcasses into trees; its ability to adapt to various habitats ranging from rainforest to steppe and including arid and montane areas; and to run at speeds up to 58 kilometres per hour (36 mph).

Nat Geo Wild
Nat Geo Wild (stylized as Nat Geo WILD or abbreviated as NGW) is a cable/satellite TV channel focused primarily on wildlife and natural history programming. It is a sister network to National Geographic Channel and it is the latest channel to be jointly launched by the National Geographic Society and Fox Cable Networks.

They survive from the moisture they get from eating their prey. It is no wonder that leopards are such great hunters. They can run up to 36 mph (58 kph), jump forward 20 feet (6 meters) and leap 10 feet (3 m) straight up, according to the San Diego Zoo. Though classified as a roaring cat, leopards usually bark when they have something to say. Leopards' ears can hear five times more sounds that the human ear. The leopard's spots are called rosettes because they look like roses. The genus Leopardus does not include leopards. Members of that genus include cats of Central and South America, such as ocelots, oncillas, margays, Pampas cats, Geoffrey's cat, guiñas and Andean cats.African Lion. Last year the US Fish and Wildlife Services announced that African lions may be facing extinction by the year 2050. The agency proposed listing the lions as “threatened” under the Endangered Species Act. According to Scientific American:5 “The decision to list the big cats as threatened—one level below endangered—would allow the U.S. government to provide some level of training and assistance for on-the-ground conservation efforts and restrict the sale of lion parts or hunting trophies into the country or across state lines.” The greatest threats facing lions are habitat loss, loss of prey (largely due to the bushmeat trade), and human-lion conflict, including sport hunting and retaliation kills, in which lions are killed after attacking area livestock.6 There are only about 34,000 lions left in Africa, which is about half the number that existed 30 years ago. About 70 percent of these animals live in just 10 regions of the continent, mostly in southern and eastern Africa. In West Africa, fewer than 250 adult lions remain. -

Kruger accommodation specials here: http://bit.ly/LatestSightingsDealsy This leopard got himself into a dangerous pickle, or should we say prickle ;), when the temptation to take on two of these well-armored creatures proved to be an agonizing experience indeed… This amazing sighting was captured by 28 year old Donovan Piketh. Donovan told LatestSightings.com through our Film and Earn program: “We were following the leopard as it was just walking along when my friend spotted the 2 porcupines walking towards the leopard. As soon as the leopard saw them it changed into stalking mode and we knew something was going to happen. It was a mixture of over excitement and panic as I was trying to get the camera onto video mode and focus on what was going on. This was the first time I have ever seen porcupines and what a way to see them. The leopard gave chase after the one porcupine, and then he focused his efforts on tackling the second. He was definitely the one that came off worse for wear that day while the porcupines managed to scurry off unscathed. The leopard needed to spend a good few minutes to get the quills out of him. Eventually, the leopard gave up trying to get the last of the porcupine’s quills out and walked off into the bush. After hearing a male leopard had been found we all got excited and headed into the area.
The male leopard started to walk along the banks of the Sand river scent marking all the way. It was at this moment we noticed the male lion lying in the river on the opposite bank.
I said to my guests 'Can you imagine if these 2 dominant males came together'. It seemed as if my words weren’t cold because shortly after that the male leopard went to sleep and the lion started to stalk him from the other side of the river.”
Matthew stated that he had mixed emotions as this sighting started to unfold.
There was a lot of excitement and nerves building as the male lion started to stalk from across the Sand River.
As the lion got closer to the leopard, Matthew realized that if he caught the leopard, then he would potentially kill it. “At this point I started to warn my guests about what could happen.” But, before they knew it, the lion was right below the sleeping leopard!
Fortunately, the lion didn’t kill the leopard, but the sneaky lion scared the living daylights out of the leopard.
“The lion drove the leopard into a Leadwood tree on the river bank and then had a drink and moved off out of the area”.

Matthew Poole (26), a professional guide at &beyond;’s Kirkman’s Camp in the Sabi Sands, watched this exciting scene play itself out right before him and his excited guests.
“By far the rarest sighting in my guiding career!” Matthew told us.
Matthew continued: “On October 04th 2016, we had started our game drive in search of leopard.
After hearing a male leopard had been found we all got excited and headed into the area.
The male leopard started to walk along the banks of the Sand river scent marking all the way. It was at this moment we noticed the male lion lying in the river on the opposite bank.
I said to my guests 'Can you imagine if these 2 dominant males came together'. It seemed as if my words weren’t cold because shortly after that the male leopard went to sleep and the lion started to stalk him from the other side of the river.”
Matthew stated that he had mixed emotions as this sighting started to unfold.
There was a lot of excitement and nerves building as the male lion started to stalk from across the Sand River.
As the lion got closer to the leopard, Matthew realized that if he caught the leopard, then he would potentially kill it. “At this point I started to warn my guests about what could happen.” But, before they knew it, the lion was right below the sleeping leopard!
Fortunately, the lion didn’t kill the leopard, but the sneaky lion scared the living daylights out of the leopard.
“The lion drove the leopard into a Leadwood tree on the river bank and then had a drink and moved off out of the area”.

Size
Leopards are larger than a house cat, but leopards are the smallest members of the large cat category. They grow to only 3 to 6.2 feet (92 to 190 centimeters) long. Their tail adds another 25 to 39 inches (64 to 99 cm) to their length. Males and females vary in weight. Females typically weigh 46 to 132 pounds (21 to 60 kilograms) and males usually weigh around 80 to 165 lbs. (36 to 75 kg), according to the San Diego Zoo.
Leopards are classified as near threatened by the IUCN's Red List of Threatened Species. This listing is due to their declining population, which is caused by habitat loss and hunting. According to PBS Nature, one of the rarest leopards is the Amur leopard, which is found in far-east Russia, Korea and northeast China. It is estimated that there are only 30 currently living in the wild.

The name "leopard" comes from the Greek word leopardus, which is a combination of leon (lion) and pardus (panther), according to PBS Nature.
Leopards don't need much water. They survive from the moisture they get from eating their prey.
It is no wonder that leopards are such great hunters. They can run up to 36 mph (58 kph), jump forward 20 feet (6 meters) and leap 10 feet (3 m) straight up, according to the San Diego Zoo.
Though classified as a roaring cat, leopards usually bark when they have something to say.
Leopards' ears can hear five times more sounds that the human ear.
The leopard's spots are called rosettes because they look like roses.
The genus Leopardus does not include leopards. Members of that genus include cats of Central and South America, such as ocelots, oncillas, margays, Pampas cats, Geoffrey's cat, guiñas and Andean cats.African Lion.
Last year the US Fish and Wildlife Services announced that African lions may be facing extinction by the year 2050. The agency proposed listing the lions as “threatened” under the Endangered Species Act. According to Scientific American:5
“The decision to list the big cats as threatened—one level below endangered—would allow the U.S. government to provide some level of training and assistance for on-the-ground conservation efforts and restrict the sale of lion parts or hunting trophies into the country or across state lines.”
The greatest threats facing lions are habitat loss, loss of prey (largely due to the bushmeat trade), and human-lion conflict, including sport hunting and retaliation kills, in which lions are killed after attacking area livestock.6
There are only about 34,000 lions left in Africa, which is about half the number that existed 30 years ago. About 70 percent of these animals live in just 10 regions of the continent, mostly in southern and eastern Africa. In West Africa, fewer than 250 adult lions remain.

This leopard got himself into a dangerous pickle, or should we say prickle ;), when the temptation to take on two of these well-armored creatures proved to be an agonizing experience indeed…
This amazing sighting was captured by 28 year old Donovan Piketh.
Donovan told LatestSightings.com through our Film and Earn program: “We were following the leopard as it was just walking along when my friend spotted the 2 porcupines walking towards the leopard. As soon as the leopard saw them it changed into stalking mode and we knew something was going to happen.
It was a mixture of over excitement and panic as I was trying to get the camera onto video mode and focus on what was going on.
This was the first time I have ever seen porcupines and what a way to see them.
The leopard gave chase after the one porcupine, and then he focused his efforts on tackling the second. He was definitely the one that came off worse for wear that day while the porcupines managed to scurry off unscathed.
The leopard needed to spend a good few minutes to get the quills out of him. Eventually, the leopard gave up trying to get the last of the porcupine’s quills out and walked off into the bush.
I think it was very rare and something you will only ever see a leopard do once… hahaha…"
