Watch live Stomatopods being prepared and eaten in Thailand, one female with eggs and one male.
Called "sea locusts" by ancient Assyrians, "prawn killers" in Australia and now sometimes referred to as "thumb splitters" – because of the animal's ability to inflict painful gashes if handled incautiously – mantis shrimps sport powerful claws that are used to attack and kill prey by spearing, stunning, or dismembering. In captivity, some larger species can break through aquarium glass with a single strike.

GRAPHIC: Live Shrimp Sushi and Live Shrimp Tempura - Sushi Ten
One of our all time favorite places to eat is Sushi Ten in Chino Hills California. We highly recommend this amazing place that has rocked the sushi scene since they have opened and for good reason. Master Sushi Chef Aaron Lao who's also the owner has such an elaborate menu that will make your tastebuds dance from the first bite until the last. And that's no surprise since Chef Aaron worked at NoBu in Beverly Hills for many years before opening Toro and then Sushi Ten.
This particular dish is called Sweet Shrimp, or Ami Ebi; it entails serving this shrimp live by dismembering the body from the head portion; after sushi and been made from the body, the head is taken into the kitchen and the outer shell from the head part is removed and then deep fried. While it is still seeming to be alive....

Garlic Shrimp Recipe
Ingredients:
2 lbs
SHRIMP
½ cup OLIVE
OIL
½ cup GARLIC
...or as much as you like (finely chopped)
1 tsp
RED PEPPER FLAKES
2 tsp
PAPRIKA
SALT and PEPPER to taste
3-5 Tbsp
LEMON JUICE
½ cup PARSLEY (chopped)
sliced BREAD for sure, dude
Garlic Shrimp Recipe
Directions:
Peel and devein the shrimp (save the shells and heads to make a stock!)
Heat olive oil in a skillet on medium high heat.
When oil is hot, add red pepper flakes.
Red pepper flakes add a nice heat, but substitute fresh peppers, or even a little cayenne if you like.
Add garlic and saute for 1 minute. Use as much garlic as you like. I prefer lots of garlic. I literally used an entire bulb. It seems like a lot, but the oil and garlic are gonna taste great when paired with thick slices of fresh bread.
Add the shrimp, and continue sauteing on medium high heat.
Once the shrimp hits the pan, it'll only take about 3 minutes to cook.
Don't overcook the shrimp; they will become rubbery if cooked overly long.
Add paprika, and salt and pepper to taste.
Saute shrimp until just cooked, when shrimp begin to color and curl, then remove the skillet from the heat.
Add lemon juice and fresh chopped parsley.
Mix well and serve in a bowl with thick slices of fresh bread.
Give this garlic shrimp recipe a try and let me know what you think...and bon appétit!

Despite making up less than half a percent of the world’s total water supply, freshwater is the lifeblood of human civilizations and critical aquatic ecosystems. One of our all time favorite places to eat is
Sushi Ten in
Chino Hills California. We highly recommend this amazing place that has rocked the sushi scene since they have opened and for good reason.
Master Sushi
Chef Aaron Lao who's also the owner has such an elaborate menu that will make your tastebuds dance from the first bite until the last. And that's no surprise since Chef Aaron worked at NoBu in
Beverly Hills for many years before opening
Toro and then Sushi Ten.
This particular dish is called
Sweet Shrimp, or Ami Ebi; it entails serving this shrimp live by dismembering the body from the head portion; after sushi and been made from the body, the head is taken into the kitchen and the outer shell from the head part is removed and then deep fried. While it is still seeming to be alive.
The controversy with this dish is that the shrimp is still alive and moving even after it's brought into the kitchen to be deep fried. You can see it looking conscious and alive which many will denounce but to each his/own; this dish is incredible so if you can get over this, then you will certainly enjoy this dish.
Look for our next video that will showcase the items that Chef Aaron made for us to enjoy this special evening. If you are ever in the LA area, this is a place that you must stop by and enjoy the culinary genius of one of our all time favorite places.
Don't forget to tell Chef Aaron who sent you.

Best Garlic Shrimp Recipe ...quick and easy
Try this super-quick and delicious garlic shrimp recipe. Lots of olive oil and garlic add great flavor, especially when served with fresh sliced bread. Cook the shrimp quickly in a hot skillet, but
don't overcook! Overcooked shrimp can get rubbery, so the total cooking time for this dish is about 4 minutes tops.

Try this super-quick and delicious garlic shrimp recipe. Lots of olive oil and garlic add great flavor, especially when served with fresh sliced bread.
Cook the shrimp quickly in a hot skillet, but
don't overcook!
Overcooked shrimp can get rubbery, so the total cooking time for this dish is about
4 minutes tops.

Many people want to help protect our oceans—but what about our lakes, streams, ponds, and rivers?
Despite making up less than half a percent of the world’s total water supply, freshwater is the lifeblood of human civilizations and critical aquatic ecosystems. Fortunately for us, there is a diverse array of biota working hard to keep these vital waters clean and healthy. In this short film by Freshwaters Illustrated, dive into a busy tropical stream ecosystem and learn how shrimp, crabs, and other invertebrates are creating a nutrient-rich environment for wildlife to flourish and humans to enjoy.
