Oscan language

Oscan is an extinct Indo-European language of southern Italy. The language is also the namesake of the language group to which it belonged. As a member of the Italic languages, Oscan is therefore a sister language to Latin and Umbrian.

Oscan was spoken by a number of tribes, including the Samnites, the Aurunci (Ausones), and the Sidicini. The latter two tribes were often grouped under the name "Osci". The Oscan group is part of the Osco-Umbrian or Sabellic family, and includes the Oscan language and three variants (Hernican, Marrucinian and Paelignian) known only from inscriptions left by the Hernici, Marrucini and Paeligni, minor tribes of eastern central Italy. The language was spoken from approximately 500 BC to AD 100.

Evidence

Oscan is known from inscriptions dating as far back as the 5th century BC. The most important Oscan inscriptions are the Tabula Bantina, the Oscan Tablet or Tabula Osca and the Cippus Abellanus.

General characteristics

Oscan had much in common with Latin, though there are also many striking differences, and many common word-groups in Latin were absent or represented by entirely different forms. For example, Latin volo, velle, volui, and other such forms from the Proto-Indo-European root *wel ('to will') were represented by words derived from *gher ('to desire'): Oscan herest ('he shall want, he shall desire', English cognate 'yearn') as opposed to Latin vult (id.). Latin locus (place) was absent and represented by the hapax slaagid (place), which Italian linguist Alberto Manco has recently referred to a local surviving toponym.

Ummet Ozcan

Ummet Ozcan (born 16 August 1982) is a Dutch-Turkish DJ and producer. His releases are supported by DJs like Sander van Doorn, Armin van Buuren, Tiësto, Calvin Harris and Hardwell. Hits include TimeWave Zero (Doorn Records), Arcadia (Doorn Records) and Shamballa (Reset). Ummet is also known for his softsynth and soundbank design for well established music software houses like Rob Papen (Albino, Predator) and for hardware units such as the Access Virus.

Ummet Ozcan released a lot of his earlier Tech Trance musical material under the Spinnin Records sublabel "Reset Records", until 2013 where his work has mainly been released on the Main label.

After releasing techno-influenced trance music for nearly 5 years, Ummet's latest productions are more focused towards the American EDM movement. In late 2012 he started producing Big room house alongside Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike and R3hab.

Raise Your Hands

Raise Your Hands is a live album by the German band Reamonn. It was released on 10 September 2004. The album was published in 2004 by Virgin Music Germany. All tracks were written by Rea Garvey, Mike Gommeringer, Uwe Bossert, Philipp Rauenbush and Sebastian Padotzke. The track with the most international success was "Star".

DVD

Following the release of the album, a two-disc live DVD was released on 22 October 2004.

Milk and Honey (album)

Milk and Honey is an album credited to John Lennon and Yoko Ono released in 1984. It is Lennon's eighth and final studio album, and the first posthumous release of Lennon's music, having been recorded in the last months of his life during and following the sessions for their 1980 album Double Fantasy. It was assembled by Yoko Ono in association with the Geffen label.

Background

Milk and Honey was the duo's projected follow-up to Double Fantasy, though Lennon's death caused a temporary shelving of the project. It took Ono three years to be able to resume work to complete it. Ono's material largely comprises new recordings, which she undertook during the album's preparation in 1983, which give her songs a more commercial and contemporary edge. Conversely, Lennon's material, being rough takes and rehearsal recordings, has a more casual feeling.

Music and lyrics

"Nobody Told Me", a song Lennon had intended for Ringo Starr's 1981 Stop and Smell the Roses, was released as a single and became a worldwide Top 10 hit. Other singles from the album were "I'm Stepping Out" and "Borrowed Time". The songs "Let Me Count the Ways" and "Grow Old with Me" were written by Lennon and Ono to each other using inspiration from poems by Elizabeth Barrett Browning and Robert Browning. They are presented in their demo form.
