I was lucky enough to get a glimpse of a wedding ceremony when I was there, which just made things even better.
Meiji Jingu is one of my absolute favorite spots in Tokyo, so if you happen to be in Tokyo, I strongly recommend you visiting this wonderful place. Easy access from Harajuku or Meiji Jingu Mae Station. - Enjoy.

Meiji Shrine
Meiji Shrine (明治神宮, Meiji Jingū), located in Shibuya, Tokyo, is the Shinto shrine that is dedicated to the deified spirits of Emperor Meiji and his wife, Empress Shōken. The shrine does not contain the emperor's grave, which is located at Fushimi-momoyama south of Kyoto.
History
After the emperor's death in 1912, the Japanese Diet passed a resolution to commemorate his role in the Meiji Restoration. An iris garden in an area of Tokyo where Emperor Meiji and Empress Shōken had been known to visit was chosen as the building's location.
Construction began in 1915 under Itō Chūta, and the shrine was built in the traditional nagare-zukuri style, using primarily Japanese cypress and copper. The building of the shrine was a national project, mobilizing youth groups and other civic associations from throughout Japan, who contributed labor and funding. It was formally dedicated in 1920, completed in 1921, and its grounds officially finished by 1926. Until 1946, the Meiji Shrine was officially designated one of the Kanpei-taisha (官幣大社), meaning that it stood in the first rank of government supported shrines.

Since it was too early to call it a day after coming back from Hakone, we proceeded to Tokyo Station after having settled down in Ikebukuro. The architectural design of Tokyo Station look stunning on the inside as well as on the outside. The next day, we started off to Harajuku. Planning a trip to Tokyo? Learn about the Meiji Jingu, one of the city's most important Shinto shrines, in this travel video. Tip: When you enter or exit through the entrance gates, called torii, be sure to bow as a sign of respect.
Shinto shrines hold a special importance in Japanese culture, and there are many of them in Tokyo.
One of the most important Shinto shrines is Meiji Shrine. Having been built in 1920, this is not the oldest Shinto shrine in Japan. It does not derive its importance from age, but from the spirits it is dedicated to.
Meiji Shrine honors the beloved Emperor Meiji and Empress Shoken.
The shrine’s entrance gates, called torii, are the largest in Japan. It’s a good thing they’re so big, because a million people come through these torii on New Year’s Day alone.
When you enter or exit through a torii, remember to bow to show respect.
It’s a good idea to research all the etiquette you should follow when visiting Shinto shrines. Inside the shrine, you can make a wish, buy charms for good luck or health, and enjoy the tranquility and beautiful scenery.
The forest on the grounds of the Meiji Shrine was planted specifically for this shrine. The shrine buildings are all built of Japanese cypress wood.
You’ll also want to spend time in the Gardens. In the summer, over a hundred species of iris bloom.
The Meiji Shrine is a place of beauty and peace, as well as unity for Tokyo and all of Japan -- it’s definitely something every visitor to Tokyo should experience.

Open to all, Meiji-Jingu is one of the most visited temples in Japan and also a place where everyone can come and celebrate their union in the purest Japanese tradition.

Since it was too early to call it a day after coming back from Hakone, we proceeded to Tokyo Station after having settled down in Ikebukuro. The architectural design of Tokyo Station look stunning on the inside as well as on the outside.
The next day, we started off to Harajuku. The first place we went to check out was Meiji Shrine, which the entrance was located next to the station. To see more of the 'Harajuku culture', Takeshita dori is a must visit place!
The large intersection of Shibuya is the prominent landmark of the place, I had to cross the road several times to take different angle shots. At last, we went ahead to Ginza. An ideal place to shop for high end brands. Fujiya Bakery at the end of the street was worth a visit, it is a cute and petite bakery with Peko chan as its main icon. Kabukiza is a theater where you can go for a kabuki act performance. The whole program lasts several hours, so you may also choose to see just a single act. We topped off the night with a hot bowl of ramen.
