Tottenham midfielder Mousa Dembele is capable of playing for any top team in world football, according to Martin Jol.

Dembele joined Spurs in the summer of 2012 and has thrived under Mauricio Pochettino's style of play.

The Belgium international is often fielded in central midfield, providing a key link between defence and attack for the north Londoners.

Spurs fans have grown accustomed to seeing Dembele pull the strings in the centre of the park but he began his career as a wide player before being moved into a central role at Fulham.

Jol, who worked with current Spurs players Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld and Christian Eriksen at Ajax, was responsible for Dembele's positional switch and has been impressed with the midfielder's development at White Hart Lane.

"I also converted Dembele from an attacking striker/winger into a midfield player," Jol told Football London.

"I did that at Fulham. That was the big change in his career and I'm sure he'd tell you the same.

"Dembele could play for any top team in the world. He is so strong and he will never lose the ball. He is so good.

"I've known him for 15 years. He started as a kid in Belgium and then he came to Holland as a striker. Then he played on the wing.

"Can you imagine him playing on the right wing, a left-footer on the right?"

Pochettino is a huge fan of Dembele's talent and has previously described the midfielder, who has made 23 Premier League starts this season, as a footballing genius.

Dele Alli is also in awe of the Belgian, having labelled Dembele as the "best footballer" at White Hart Lane.
