Truck driver killed and three injured in Hume Highway crash at Marulan

A man has died and three others are seriously injured after a crash on the Hume Highway near Marulan on Tuesday.

Emergency services were called to the scene of a crash between a truck and sedan travelling north at about 2.10pm on Tuesday. 

Following the collision, police said the truck crashed into a tree.

Superintendent Andrew Koutsoufis confirmed the driver died at the scene and his passenger was treated for chest injuries. He will be airlifted to hospital.

Superintendent Koutsoufis said an elderly woman in the sedan was treated by ambulance workers. An elderly man also in the car would be airlifted to hospital. 

Two rescue helicopters from Albion Park and Bankstown landed at the scene, where household items and clothing were strewn across the road.

The pantech hire truck was moving house to Shellharbour for a Melbourne woman who was travelling two vehicles behind.

The woman witnessed the accident and was visibly distraught at the scene

With investigations continuing, a brief will be prepared for the Coroner.

Traffic has been affected in both directions near to the crash between the Towrang turnoff and Marulan. A contraflow of northbound traffic is moving slowly through the southbound carriageway.
