New Jersey is a state in the Northeastern and Middle Atlantic regions of the United States. It is bordered on the north and east by New York, on the southeast and south by the Atlantic Ocean, on the west by Pennsylvania, and on the southwest by Delaware. New Jersey is the fourth-smallest state, but the 11th-most populous and the most densely populated of the 50 United States. New Jersey lies entirely within the combined statistical areas of New York City and Philadelphia and is the second-wealthiest U.S. state by median household income as of 2014.
New Jersey was inhabited by Native Americans for more than 2,800 years, with historical tribes such as the Lenape along the coast. In the early 17th century, the Dutch and the Swedes made the first European settlements. The English later seized control of the region, naming it the Province of New Jersey after the largest of the Channel Islands, Jersey, and granting it as a colony to Sir George Carteret and John Berkeley, 1st Baron Berkeley of Stratton. New Jersey was the site of several decisive battles during the American Revolutionary War in the 18th century.
Mary Alice Williams (born March 12, 1949) is a former co-anchor of NBC's Weekend Today and a former anchor and news division Vice President on CNN. She is currently anchor of NJTV News on New Jersey's public television network.
Mary Alice Williams is a highly acclaimed broadcast journalist whose investigative work on such topics as foreign policy, ethics, technology and health have made her a respected authority and recognized voice for public information. She is also an associate professor of Journalism at SUNY Purchase. and was previously an adjunct professor Seton Hall University.
Williams was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She received a B.A. in English and Mass Communications from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. She is the mother of three daughters: Alice Ann, born 1990 and twins Sara Mary and Laura Abigail, born 1992. In June 2014 she married Dr.Julian Decter,a hematologic oncologist at Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York. On July 1st, 2014 she became the anchorwoman of NJTV News on New Jersey public television.

Alice was born Mary Alice Smith in Indianola, Mississippi, the daughter of Ozelar (née Jurnakin) and Sam Smith. She had a yen to act and began her career on stage in her hometown.
Alice has appeared in over 50 television shows and feature films during her career. She made her screen debut in 1974 film The Education of Sonny Carson, and later guest-starred in Police Woman and Sanford and Son. She played Ellie Grant Hubbard on soap opera All My Children in the early 1980s, and co-starred in A Different World as Leticia 'Lettie' Bostic from 1988 to 1989.
In 1987 she received a Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play for her work in Fences. She also won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 1993 for I'll Fly Away (1991–1993). Alice's other film credits include Malcolm X (1992), The Inkwell (1994) and Down in the Delta with Alfre Woodard.
In 2000, Alice was inducted into the American Theatre Hall of Fame.
