Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia officially kicked off on Sunday afternoon in Sydney. Designer Dion Lee was the opening show, holding his runway under the sails of the Sydney Opera House.
Lee was the first designer to stage a runway presentation at the Sydney Opera House back in in 2010 and this is the fourth show on-site at the same location for the designer.
Lee is one of Australia's most globally recognised brands and this year returned to the MBFWA runway, after showcasing seven years running at New York Fashion Week.
Lee's focus shifted to the international market in February 2012 with a move to the London Fashion Week schedule, where presentations were met with a phenomenally positive response. Lee participated in the International Woolmark Prize as the Australian Finalist and also presented at London Fashion Week.
February 2016 marked the brand's sixth season at New York Fashion Week, showcasing its Fall 2016 collection. New York has become a secondary base for Lee's label, showing regularly on the seasonal schedule.
On Sunday, Dion Lee partnered with with Woolmark, along with iconic Australian brands Akubra and RM Williams. Neoprene made a come back, double breasted coats and trenches were over-sized, and silk satin slip dresses were seen in shades of mustard and red.
