A baby born weighing an incredible 16lb 4oz is believed to have set a record for New Zealand.
The boy who was born by caesarean section on Monday is said to weigh more than twice the average newborn and measures an impressive 57cm long.
In fact, he was so big that his pregnant mother struggled to bend over.
After attempting to administer an epidural to his mother for three hours, the parents, who do not wish to be named, said that he was born happy and healthy.
But, admit that they were shocked by his size.
“We are not that tall ourselves, so we are not sure where his size comes from,” his dad told Stuff.co.nz.
“People are calling him the next Jonah Lomu (a New Zealand All Black rugby player), but we think he’ll be a concert pianist.
“He has a good set of lungs.”
As a result of his size, the baby will need to wear clothes meant for children who are six-months-old.
He’ll also skip newborn nappies and go straight to the third size up which are designed to fit babies weighing between 6kg and 11kg.
Her second child, the mother is no stranger to big babies with her first boy tipping the scale at 11.8lbs.
But, despite their impressive size, neither boy comes close to beating the Guinness World Record for the biggest baby.
This, after 138 years, still belongs to the son of Canadian giantess Anna Bates who weighed an astonishing 23lb 9oz and measured 76.2cm.
