TWO FOR the price of none! Enervating end-of-the-pier effort from Punchliner LENNIE BENNETT and subsequent doleite JERRY STEVENS. Promoted, if you can believe it, as viable replacement for Morecambe & Wise. Except with one of them – Len – insisting wearing as little as possible for comic effect, such as a lime-green G-string, prompting pre-watershed jokes about “rhubarb”.

Came at a time when the BBC was badly wounded by losing their biggest ratings bankers, Morecambe and Wise and Bruce Forsyth, and needed replacements quickly. Les Dawson managed to prosper on the BBC, radio and television, but this duo seemed to turn up on summer nights when not a lot of people were watching and the humour was of a Little and Large unfunny variety. A shame for Lenny Bennett because as a quiz host he excelled and developed an excellent reputation as an after dinner speaker, but this was definitely his weakest moment.
