A massive ransomware campaign, called 'Wanna Cry', appears to have infected a number of organisations around the world. Computers in thousands of locations, in more than 70 countries have apparently been locked by a program that demands the equivalent of about $400 in Bitcoin to be unlocked. Hospitals in the UK appear to have been targeted, causing havoc for doctors trying to access patients records. More

Donald Trump has warned sacked FBI director James Comey not to leak to the press about conversations between the two of them, referencing possible 'tapes' of their discussions. The President is facing increasing criticism for removing the intelligence chief who was overseeing the FBI investigation into Russian interference in US politics. The President has also defended his press staff, saying they can't always be expected to be accurate. More

Former Labor leader Paul Keating has told Fairfax today that Bill Shorten's tax policy punishes the wealthy. Under Labor's plan to fund the National Disability Insurance Scheme, Mr Shorten wants to limit the increase in the Medicare levy to the top two marginal tax rates. Does Paul Keating have a point? The Federal Government's plan to drug test welfare recipients has been compared to a similar policy in New Zealand. But welfare organisations in New Zealand say the program has been far from successful. They also believe the Australian proposal goes much further.

Treasurer Scott Morrison moved to address that situation in the budget, providing a 'bond aggregator' to be managed by the new National Housing Finance and Investment Corporation. The bond aggregator will combine the borrowing needs of not-for-profit community housing providers. Starting in mid-2018, the NHFIC make it easier for those providers to borrow at lower rates and longer terms than conventional finance.

It's the second outbreak of the illness in as many months after cases were detected in Melbourne's CBD recently. One environmental health expert is warning there has been a steady rise in the condition across the globe.

More than a dozen experts are calling for urgent rethink of national water law and governance, as Australia faces increases in population and food. In its submission to a Productivity Commission inquiry, the group says the design and implementation of the national blueprint for water reform isn't sufficient to meet future challenges. It's outlined 10 reforms it believes need to be considered and addressed by government and industry, to help manage the nations water going forward.

The NT Government says the national drink driving, speed and not wearing seat belts campaigns haven't made a dent in the problem. The NT road toll is five times the national average, with around 15 people in every 100,000 dying in a traumatic road accident. It is now asking its citizens to contribute to the solution by taking part in its 'Towards Zero' campaign.
