Vanuatu Broadcasting and Television Corporation boss remains confident ahead of strike threat
The chairman of the Vanuatu Broadcasting and Television Corporation, Johnety Jerety, is confident he can head off a threatened strike as the transformation of the organisation continues.
It's being restructured from top to bottom, with plans to expand its coverage into the regions, put up new transmitters, and reduce its reliance on government funding.
Under the previous board, the entire VBTC workforce opted for redundancy back in 2013, but only now have staff started to leave the corporation, with eight senior managers departing last Friday.
Mr Jerety says those that remain were understandably concerned about the lack of certainty surrounding their futures, and that's what prompted the threat of a strike, but he says the whole process should be complete within the next few weeks.
