American late-night TV hosts and their never-ending barbs really are getting under President Trump's skin.

It may seem like the stuff of Hillary Clinton's wildest dreams, but if you need evidence, look no further than Donald Trump's most recent chat with TIME.

Stephen Colbert lampoons Rachel Maddow's 'scoop'

The eponymous host of The Late Show has some fun with Rachel Maddow's underwhelming report about President Trump's 2005 tax return.

During the wide-ranging interview, the President has a go at the networks he believes have it in for him (basically every single one - except Fox News, of course).

Comedian Stephen Colbert copped most of the President's venom, however, with the businessman labelling The Late Show host a "no-talent guy".

"There's nothing funny about what he says," Trump said, cementing his commitment to alternative facts. "What he says is filthy. And you have kids watching. And it only builds up my base. It only helps me, people like him."

Trump's spray was aimed at a skit Colbert did last week. In it, the late-night host said the only thing the President's mouth is good for is being Vladimir Putin's "c--- holster".

For his part, Colbert has predictably laughed off the President's criticisms. The comedian even went as far as blowing Trump a kiss on national television to thank him for the publicity.

"There's a lot you don't understand," he said, addressing the President directly. "But I never thought one of those things would be show business. Don't you know I've been trying for a year to get you to say my name? And you were very restrained - admirably restrained. Now, you did it. I won."

Comedians aren't the only ones wearing down the Trump administration, either. Trump advisor Kellyanne Conway made headlines this morning after implying that CNN host Anderson Cooper is sexist because he rolled his eyes at her during a combative interview.
