One in a million: Porsche reaches 911 milestone

Porsche is set to celebrate the 911 with a world tour featuring a milestone example of the breed.

The manufacturer has built one million examples of its iconic sports car since 1963. The 1,000,000th car is on its way to Europe, the US and Asia before settling down at the excellent Porsche Museum in Stuttgart.

Marrying modern technology with retro looks, the special car is based on a 2017 Carrera S model featuring Porsche's latest 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine and seven-speed manual transmission.

Finished in a classic shade of non-metallic Irish Green, the model features a few touches that hark back to Porsche's original 911 coupe.

The steering wheel and dashboard are finished in mahogany, as opposed to aluminium or carbon fibre, the seats feature houndstooth trim similar to what you find on a 911 R, and the instruments take inspiration from that model, the most collectable Porsche in recent history.

On the outside, it features 20-inch alloy wheels in a classic design, as well as a retro chrome window outline and aluminium mirror caps that contrast nicely with its paint.

Gold-painted badges in a simplified design tie it all together beautifully at the rear. While this example will not be sold to the public, it is possible to replicate many of the landmark coupe's design touches with optional Porsche Exclusive options available on new models.

A spokesman for the brand says Porsche has not yet decided whether to bring the milestone example to Australia.
