Met Gala red carpet 2017: Kylie Jenner's fashion faux pas

Show comments

The Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute Gala, aka "fashion's biggest night out," is the one event where it's not taboo to ask the stars, "who are you wearing?"

It can take months for designers and stylists to pull together some looks, so most celebrities feel honoured to discuss their ensembles, others are contractually obliged to.

But not reality television star-turned-beauty mogul, Kylie Jenner, 19, who turned heads in a fringed, metallic and blush pink Donatella Versace gown that gave a subtle nod to this year's theme Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between.

The youngest half-sibling of the Kardashians made a fashion faux pas when she was asked how the collaboration with Versace came about.

Despite walking the cream carpet hand-in-hand with Versace herself, Jenner told E!: "I don't even know, it just happened."

"It's like a waterfall effect," she managed as she lifted her arm.

Wearing a blonde, cropped wig for the occasion, she later explained on Instagram it was Versace's idea: "When donatella wants you to go blonde .. you go f---ing BLONDE (sic)."

Despite Anna Wintour's ban on phones at the gala, Jenner has other notions up her embellished sleeves.

"I will sneak a selfie or two... Probably with my sisters," she laughed.

Taking to the bathrooms shortly after the red carpet extravaganza wrapped, she did just that, uploading a mirror selfie that included sisters Kim Kardashian West and Kendall Jenner, her rumoured new boyfriend Travis Scott, Sean Combs, and Lily Aldridge to name-drop but a few.

Jenner, who first found fame at the age of 10 on her family's long-running E! reality television show, Keeping Up with the Kardashians, is about to go it alone with Life of Kylie

Opening up about the spin-off, that she described as a "docu-series," she said: "I have so much stuff planned."
