What happens when you win lotto?

It's a dream for many but only a handful of lucky people will get to experience the process of what happens if you come across those winning numbers.

But the real bonanza comes on Thursday night with a whopping $50 million Powerball jackpot up for grabs, followed by a further $21 million in the Saturday Lotto Superdraw.

Lotterywest spokesperson Pina Compagnone said the $50 million jackpot was the second highest offered across Australia this year.

She said Lotterywest expected a huge amount of tickets to be sold and urged players to snap them up early to avoid the expected rush on jackpot day.

"Almost half a million tickets across the State are expected to be sold in the $50 million Powerball jackpot," Ms Compagnone said.

"It's certainly set to create excitement and anticipation.

"Ticket sales will peak late Thursday afternoon when around 800 tickets each minute will be purchased by local punters."

Lotterywest expects to raise a combined $12 million for the WA community from the proceeds.

According to Lotterywest, two lucky winners have yet to claim their shares from a winning syndicate ticket holding an $800,000 Division 1 Lotto prize.

The winning tickets were sold at Jurien Bay Newsagency and Exmouth Newsagency and Toyworld.

Ms Compagnone said twenty-three Division 1 Lotto winners had shared in almost $60 million of winnings so far this year.

Punters can buy their tickets until 6pm on the day of the draw.
