Kinect (codenamed in development as Project Natal) is a line of motion sensing input devices by Microsoft for Xbox 360 and Xbox One video game consoles and Windows PCs. Based around a webcam-style add-on peripheral, it enables users to control and interact with their console/computer without the need for a game controller, through a natural user interface using gestures and spoken commands. The first-generation Kinect was first introduced in November 2010 in an attempt to broaden Xbox 360's audience beyond its typical gamer base. A version for Windows was released on February 1, 2012. Kinect competes with several motion controllers on other home consoles, such as Wii Remote Plus for Wii and Wii U, PlayStation Move/PlayStation Eye for PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Camera for PlayStation 4.
Microsoft released the Kinect software development kit for Windows 7 on June 16, 2011. This SDK was meant to allow developers to write Kinecting apps in C++/CLI, C#, or Visual Basic .NET.
Paranormal Activity is a 2007 American independent found footage supernatural horror film written, co-produced, photographed, edited, and directed by Oren Peli. It is the first entry into the Paranormal Activity film series. The film centers on a young couple, Katie and Micah, who are haunted by a supernatural presence in their home. It is presented in the style of "found footage", from cameras set up by the couple in an attempt to document what is haunting them.
Originally developed as an independent feature and given film festival screenings in 2007, the film was acquired by Paramount Pictures and modified, particularly with a new ending. It was given a limited U.S. release on September 25, 2009, and then a nationwide release on October 16, 2009. The film earned nearly $108 million at the U.S. box office and a further $85 million internationally for a worldwide total of $193 million. Paramount/DreamWorks acquired the U.S. rights for $350,000. It is the most profitable film ever made, based on return on investment, although such figures are difficult to verify independently as this is likely to exclude marketing costs.

Back in 2009 when Xbox was at its best, Project Natal came out of nowhere. Supposed revolutionary, "the controller was a barrier". Kinect turned into a long ride to hell that lasted 5 years, forced all the way up to the next generation of consoles. Since the departure of Don Mattrick in 2013, a major reorganization of the Xbox team was made. Kinect is no longer advertised or bundled with the console. Today, Phil Spencer is still trying to recover the Xbox brand's image. ------- Sources ------- E3 2009 https://youtu.be/DesTY6Qk07Q E3 2010 https://youtu.be/2Z-0Rj9-bhg E3 2011 https://youtu.be/77c2S0V4__w E3 2012 https://youtu.be/IYvQu00t75w E3 2013 https://youtu.be/wVz23gN5Z5A Delivering More Choice for Fans https://youtu.be/O_NLK-jEDGc Fan Impressions at E3 https://youtu.be/N0qU_qomqsE game...

An amazing ghost hunting video using the Xbox Kinect. So after a few days of using the Xbox Kinect I have finally caught some exciting paranormal activity. Kinect Graffiti is a digital graffiti tool using "Microsoft Kinect" camera. Idea behind this project is to use the kinect to track the motion behind graffiti. Visualizing the body and drawing trough different angles in realtime, Understanding surrounding space, pausing the time, etc... We undertook this experiment to explore the visual aesthetics made possible by emerging technologies such as 3D depth cameras and code-processed video. Using a hardware / software workflow pioneered by creative coder James George, coupled with custom code developed by Superfad, we captured 3D depth data using the Microsoft Kinect, and coupled it with high definition video of a dancer (Emily Bass) from the DSLR. This process allowed us to record footage from a single camera position, and move through that footage in 3D space post-capture, with no degradation in quality regardless of zoom on the subject. Using the RGBD Toolkit, along with the point-cloud processing abilities of the Plexus plugin for AfterEffects, we applied various visual treatments to this captured footage to compile the ...
Update: check the 2.0 version! http://vimeo.com/34824490 A quick installation prototype Emily and I hooked up with the libfreenect Kinect drivers and ofxKinect. This is the updated 2.0 version of our Kinect Interactive Puppet prototype ( http://vimeo.com/16985224 ). Puppet Parade is an interactive installation that allows children to use their arms to puppeteer larger than life creatures projected on the wall in front of them. Children can also step in to the environment and interact with the puppets directly, petting them or making food for them to eat. This dual interactive setup allows children to perform alongside the puppets, blurring the line between the 'audience' and the puppeteers and creating an endlessly playful dialogue between the children in the space and the children puppeteering the creatures. Puppet Parade premiered at the 2011 Cinekid festival in Amsterdam. Puppet Parade is made with openFrameworks and the ofxKinect addon. Pr...

The Motion Project was a collaboration between a lot of clever creative people working together to create a machine that turns motion into music. The client for the project, Frucor (makers of V energy drink), together with their agency Colenso BBDO, kitted-out a warehouse space for this project to grow in and gathered together a group of talented people from a number of creative fields. http://www.v.co.nz/#the-motion-project We created and designed the live visual spectacle with a music video being produced from the results. We wanted it to be clear that the technology was real and actually being played live. The interface plays a key role in illustrating the idea of the instrument and we designed it to highlight the audio being controlled by the dancer. Design elements like real time tr...
