Official Launch of the Global Human Development Report 2016

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to UN house and the Namibia launch of the 2016 Human Development Report. This Report is the latest in a series of UNDP flagship publications issued since 1990. The theme of this years report “Human Development for everyone”, stresses the importance of ‘people as the real wealth of nations’.

UNDP and Yahoo Japan join forces to scale up wildlife protection project

Windhoek, 3 April 2017 –The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Namibia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Yahoo! Japan on 9 March 2017 to enhance wild animal protection and anti-poaching activities in Namibia.

The free flow of information and ideas lies at the heart of the very notion of democracy and is crucial to effective respect human rights. In the absence of respect for the right to freedom of expression, which includes the right to seek, receive and impart information and ideas, it is not possible to exercise the right to vote, human rights abuses take place in secret, and there is no way to expose corrupt, inefficient government.

At the turn of the century, world leaders, came together and launched the Millennium Development Goals; to be achieved over 15 years. These goals were focused on halving the number of people living in extreme poverty, and led to tremendous development progress around the world.
