Pros
The Home Depot has a solid moral compass. They aren't about sacrificing their ethics for the sake of a sale, which I love. They also hire a diverse group of people and give a lot back to the community. They offer a lot of benefits and little treats for their employees. Although they push their associates to meet quota, they're realistic about what can and can't be accomplished.
Cons
Home Depot has two different sides to it. Store associates and those of us considered "store support" who are payed by the vendors but work in the stores 100% of the time. I constantly hear about how store associates are stressed out by management and their hours are being rearranged a lot, cut, and they often are stretched thin due to lack of full staffing. "Store support" associates who do merchandising have it better than those who work in specific departments. However, you never really gain knowledge unless you have the time to look things up and read packaging.
Advice to Management
Stop promoting associates based off of favoritism.

Bring back the %5 discount for every use of The Home Depot Credit card. Reinstall security / theft systems that actually work at all stores. Create a brand new IT department. The computer problems in stores for associates and website problems for customers are constant...

Pros
The benefits are nice and you are educated on the products in your department, which can be used in the future.
Cons
If you are in a department other than Receiving, you almost always have to work weekends unless you request off several weeks in advance and it is approved by Human Resources.
Advice to Management
Equally distribute work between same level employees. Too many workers that have been there several years and talk back to management and refuse to do work because "they've been there too long to have to do that stuff".

Great way to learn how to fix and improve your home. Friendly environment with knowledgeable employees.
Cons
Standing and walking around on hard surface for hours. Lack of personal training, most was done on the computer. Department head not often around.
