Landu-Kleffner Syndrome is a very odd disorder that tends to affect children between the ages of five and seven. The symptoms of this mental illness involve a lack of communication ability in the sufferer. Aboulmania We all have a tough time making decisions that affect our lives, and sometimes we can feel distraught and worried when faced with a difficult choice. Sufferers of Aboulmania, though, take it to the next level. This particular mental illness is categorized by what can be termed a crippling indecision. Caffeine Induced A fair portion of the world drinks coffee as a way to perk up in the morning… or the afternoon… or really just any time of the day. Caffeine is a drug that’s legal across the globe and many people are all but reliant on it to get through the day. But have you ever had so much coffee that you start to get anxious? Boanthropy Some disorders are confusing, and some are very difficult to deal with… but this next one is downright strange. Boanthropy is, quite simply, when you think you’re a cow or an ox. This isn’t a traditional body image issue or weight problem… it’s more of a “walk-on-four-legs-and-eat-grass” scenario. Autophagia Lots of people have a habit of biting their nails, and it can even get slightly painful… but it’s probably not this bad. Autophagia is a unique and frightening disorder, and it refers to the condition of, well, eating yourself. Sometimes just parts of your arms and fingers, it’s basically a compulsion to bite and chew, despite the pain you inflict. Alien Hand Having full control of your limbs is probably something you take for granted, but you’d certainly feel differently if you lost that power. Alien Hand Syndrome, as cool as it sounds, can be super annoying, incredibly frustrating, and somewhat scary. It occurs when a hand or arm ceases to respond to your own brainwaves. Erotomania Love is a confusing thing, and at one point or another it’s pretty likely that you’ll make a mistake when learning the hard lessons involved with this emotion. You probably didn’t suffer from Erotomania, though. Capgras Delusion Paranoia is a part of everyone’s life, in small doses, but it can be a real problem for others. Capgras delusion is a specific form of paranoia and is a rare disorder that is most common in people with schizophrenia and recent brain injuries. Fregoli Delusion While Capgras can be difficult and scary, there’s another side to this coin. Fregoli delusion can be described as the exact opposite: the sufferer believes that several different people are in fact one person who changes their appearance to fit the scene. Paris Syndrome If you spend years idealizing a place, when you finally arrive in person you might be, well, disappointed. Hopefully, this doesn’t cause you to break down. Paris Syndrome is a very, very specific mental illness that only affects Japanese tourists when they go to Paris. Of the millions who visit yearly, about ten will fall victim to this ailment. BDD It’s important to remember that nobody’s perfect, but it’s easy to focus on a new pimple when you’re about to go on a date. However, it’s probably not a symptom of Body Dysmorphic disorder. Riley-Day We do know a fair bit about some disorders, despite the deeper mysteries. We know, for example, that Riley-Day Syndrome is a genetic disorder that requires prerequisite genes from both the mother and the father for it to exist.
