UNDP adopts Bahrain’s Country Programme Document

New York, USA Ministry of Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for International Affairs, Dr Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, presented the Country Programme Document for the Kingdom of Bahrain for 2017-2020 to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Executive Board during its annual session in New York. 
He highlighted the efforts made by Bahrain in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme office, in consultation with the relevant authorities in Bahrain, to gain access to projects that conform with the government's work plan for 2015- 2018 and the Bahrain Economic Vision 2030, through the Coordinating Committee headed by the Foreign Ministry and the membership of the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs, the First Deputy Premier Office and the UNDP. 
Shaikh Abdulla presented a list of major initiatives in cooperation with the UNDP, stressing that the projects to be implemented within the country work programme come across two main frameworks to achieve economic diversification and sustainable social services, as well as support institutions to achieve international standards in the performance and application of the service, in line with the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals 2030. 

He also stressed Bahrain's commitment to the strategic cooperation with the United Nations, its organisations and its specialized agencies, adding that cooperation with the UNDP comes in the preparation and implementation of projects as an affirmation of this commitment, stemming from the desire of the Kingdom of Bahrain in support of human development in order to achieve sustainable development. 

Shaikh Abdulla praised the constructive role of the United Nations Development Programme in the Kingdom through its advice and technical support for development projects. 

The Executive Board at the end of the meeting extended its thanks to Bahrain for its efforts in the process of preparation of the country work programme for 2017-2020, and expressed hope that the projects contribute to the sustainability of development in the Kingdom, announcing the formal adoption of the document.
