Absurd verdict: Ahmed H. got sentenced with 10 years of prison in show trialAfter the happenings at the border to Serbia in September 2015, 11 people are facing trials for what the government calls 'border offense' and 'terrorism' and what is actually political repression and an attempt to scare people
One of them, Ahmad H., accused of terrorism was found guilty by the court in an outrageous show trial. Join the demonstration on Saturday, 4pm Blaha Lujza tér. They were eventually sentenced to prison sentences between 1 and 3 years and 3 of them are still kept in prison at the moment. |

On the day of the border closure, Migszol publishes a new report about the long summer of migration in Hungary
In the summer of 2015, tens of thousands of people from violence- and poverty-torn countries crossed the border between Serbia and Hungary seeking international protection. In our new report, we show that the so-called “refugee crisis” that ensued was the direct result of the inability and unwillingness of the Hungarian government under the nationalist-conservative Fidesz-party and Prime Minister Viktor Orbán to provide effective support to those affected. To this end, we documented the experiences of people seeking international protection and then related those experiences to the increasingly restrictive political and legal context in Hungary. MigSzol Call to Action: Email the Police to Investigate the Violence at the Border
In the last weeks more and more reports about serious violence at the Southern borders of Hungary have been spread (eg. the UNHCR and Human Rights Watch reports). Even if it is only a small gesture, now there is something we can personally do: email the police and demand them to take those uncountable cases seriously and start investigate about the violent actions at the borders. Migrant solidarity and homelessness

Migszol prepared a small video that tragicomically portrays how difficult it is for refugees to find an apartment in Hungary. Many landlords do not know anything about refugees, and are reluctant to rent their apartments to them because of this lack of knowledge.
For refugees finding adequate housing is the first step in their new life in Hungary after the refugee camps. Menedék offers some help for them in the flat-hunt, but more help is needed. First a little peak to the history of Hungary and refugees...
"As the first 60 Hungarian refugees arrive in the United States, the vanguard of 5000 who fled the bloody Soviet repression of their homeland, while they were on route to Macgurie air force base in New Jersey, the world's reaction to the Russian bloodbath in Hungary swelled to a chorus of outrage with the leading neutral nations joining in denunciation. For those who escaped, some 50 000, the free world opened its doors and hearts… a deserted army camp, transformed into a reception centre, homes and jobs are flooded in, so many that an additional five to seven thousand might be admitted in before the year's end. Many have friends our relations here. These modern pilgrims, brace the new world!" |
