Sydney weather: Warm and sunny start to the week before showers arrive

The warm and sunny weekend weather is set to continue for Sydney, as the week gets off to a bright start ahead of showers and cooler temperatures on Wednesday.

Sydneysiders were treated to a mild weekend which ended with sunshine and a top of 23 degrees on Sunday.

Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Neale Fraser said Monday should be "a fine day with plenty of sunshine and quite warm."

Partly cloudy with an expected top of 25 degrees, May will begin the way April finished. Tuesday will follow suit with a high of 24.

Mr Fraser said there's a "slight chance of a shower on Tuesday night" with rain predicted on Wednesday.

"It will be a little bit cooler from Wednesday onwards," Mr Fraser said, as showers are tipped to arrive in Sydney.

While Sydney can expect light falls, heavier falls are expected along the state's northern coastal regions, with Mr Fraser predicting the north coast will be "quite wet later in the week".

Next weekend, however, looks like another good one to be outdoors.

"It should be fine and mostly sunny again for Saturday," Mr Fraser said.

Maximum daytime temperatures in Sydney during April were 1.3 degrees above the long-term average, Mr Fraser said.

It was also much drier than usual, with just 82.6mm compared to the 128.8mm average for April.
