Best places to get creative juices flowing

by Ashlee Press

Studying in a library isn’t for everyone, especially if you’re in a course that enables you to be creative.

The library can be crowded, sometimes loud, and full of dusty books that don’t give you the right kind of energy necessary to be your most creative.

Thankfully there are places, both on and off campus, that are a creative’s dream.

QUT courtyard outside Z1

Located on top of Z2 and encompassed by the barracks-turned-fashion studios and La Boite theatre, the courtyard has it all. Relax at a table or on a bench under the shade of a tree, you are surrounded by (a small amount of) like minded individuals. You can grab a coffee at Dancing Bean and enjoy the breeze as you study, write and create to your heart, or deadline’s, content.

UQ Lakes

Why not be surrounded by water while you work? You’re on campus but not really, so it feels the same with your work – you can create but it doesn’t feel like uni work.

City Botanic Gardens

Take a blanket, a few snacks and it’s as if you weren’t even studying at all. QUT Garden’s point is right next door, so you can come here in your “free time” or in between classes instead of heading into the city. If you don’t have hayfever, why not venture into the flower gardens, or take inspiration from the temples for your next art assignment.

Gallery Precinct

The Brisbane city art gallery precinct has the perfect vibe to create. Find a place in between the Art Museum, Art Gallery and GOMA, and let your creativity run free. There are a plethora of  benches and tables next to the galleries and also along the Brisbane River so there are plenty of places where you won’t be disturbed by the public. This one is great for Griffith Art students, especially if you’re sick of what Southbank has to offer.

Put these places to the test and see how your uni work fares.
