Karl Stefanovic goes public with new girlfriend

Months after announcing his split from his wife of 21 years, Today host Karl Stefanovic is photographed sailing in Sydney with new girlfriend Jasmine Yarbrough.

Stefanovic - who earns nearly $3 million a year - "put up very little resistance during the negotiations", according to the report.

The Channel 9 star ended his two-decade long marriage in July last year, informing Thorburn when she returned from doing the weekly grocery run. Her then husband had packed his bags and told her he would not be returning, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.

"She was completely devastated and had no inkling that something was happening. Cass was blindsided. It took her days to even tell the rest of her family because she had no idea what was going on or why it was happening," a family source close to Thorburn told the Sydney Morning Herald in March.

Since the split, Stefanovic has been spotted enjoying a busy social life, staying at James Packer's million dollar Bondi apartment while Thorburn has been caring for their three children.

In February, Stefanovic's children found out about his new relationship when they saw paparazzi pictures of him kissing Yarbrough on a super yacht and then splashed across the front page of a Sunday tabloid.

"At no point before it was released in the media did Karl tell [his wife] Cassandra or the children he was in a relationship and that he wanted his girlfriend to meet them," a source told Fairfax Media at the time.

Throughout his marriage, Stefanovic had praised his ex-wife for giving up her own career as a journalist at the ABC to support his television career.

"I'm forever thankful and tremendously appreciative of that," he told the Sunday Herald Sun in 2015.

"Cass wanted to be at home, and wants to be there now, and we're very lucky to be in a financial position where we can do that."

Following the split, Ms Thorburn took to Facebook to remind people of her input into her former husband's career and the success of the Today show.

"This took a huge toll on my family and I, and I'm congratulating myself to-day for all the effort that went into making that happen. The suggestions, the story ideas, the constant counselling of questions for years. I'm giving myself a pat on the back tonight as I know many people will also know how much effort I put into it," she wrote.
