San Diego /ˌsæn diːˈeɪɡoʊ/ (Spanish for "Saint Didacus") is a major city in California, on the coast of the Pacific Ocean in Southern California, approximately 120 miles (190 km) south of Los Angeles and immediately adjacent to the border with Mexico.
With an estimated population of 1,381,069 as of July 1, 2014, San Diego is the eighth-largest city in the United States and second-largest in California. San Diego is the birthplace of California and is known for its mild year-round climate, natural deep-water harbor, extensive beaches, long association with the U.S. Navy, and recent emergence as a healthcare and biotechnology development center.
Historically home to the Kumeyaay people, San Diego was the first site visited by Europeans on what is now the West Coast of the United States. Upon landing in San Diego Bay in 1542, Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo claimed the entire area for Spain, forming the basis for the settlement of Alta California 200 years later. The Presidio and Mission of San Diego, founded in 1769, formed the first European settlement in what is now California. In 1821, San Diego became part of newly independent Mexico, and in 1850, became part of the United States following the Mexican–American War and the admission of California to the union.

Professor James Hamilton of the University of California, San Diego, presents "Oil Prices, Exhaustible Resources and Economic Growth" on November 19, 2012 as part of the Andlinger Center's 2012-2013 Highlight Seminar Series. ABSTRACT This talk explores details behind the phenomenal increase in global crude oil production over the last century and a half and the implications if that trend should be reversed. I document that a key feature of the growth in production has been exploitation of new geographic areas rather than application of better technology to existing sources, and suggest that the end of that era could come soon. The economic dislocations that historically followed temporary oil supply disruptions will be reviewed, and the possible implications of that experience for wh...

Killing more than 550 Californians, sending thousands to hospitals and testing the state’s medical infrastructure as never before, a new virus changed our world 26 months ago. The H1N1 flu, first identified in Imperial and San Diego counties, led to widespread anxiety, the declaration of a public health emergency, and closed schools. H1N1 quickly spread nationwide and then around the globe, taking a heavy toll on people not usually susceptible to serious influenza. "The H1N1 Flu: California's Response" shows first-hand how California doctors and researchers who were on the front lines identified and responded to the pandemic, and how it was different from anything they had experienced before. Two survivors of the flu tell their story on how H1N1 nearly took their lives. This compelling d...
http://www.superfoodhealthyliving.com/ http://www.superfoodhealthyliving.com/products.html It's been shown, for example, when a plant gets a disease. Ultimately, when you analyze the soil that that plant is growing in, there are certain key minerals that are missing, and if you put those minerals in the soil, all of a sudden that plant's disease goes away. You can take that metaphor and draw it out into animals and humans, and you can see what's really the big thing here. Mineral-deficient food is really the ultimate cause of all the food problems that we have today. That's why we have weakling plants that need to be sprayed with pesticides and have artificial fertilizers. Mother Nature figured out this mineral game a billion years ago, and it is known that if you take ocean water and y...
Extensive coastal development in the past 50 years has been detrimental to California's natural landscape and its famous surf spots. "There”s no question that California”s population has doubled in the 43 years since I’ve been here," said Gary Griggs, director of the Institute of Marine Sciences at the University of California-Santa Cruz. "It's gone from 19 million to almost 39 million people. And most of the those people, 75 percent of them are living in coastal counties." In just over two generations, more than 90 percent of California’s open coastline has been developed. As erosion increases, surfers lose historical surf breaks and families are forced out of their homes during extreme storms and weather conditions. In January 2010, a state of emergency was declared near San Francisco...
Mr. Griffin marshals the evidence that cancer is a deficiency disease—like scurvy or pellagra—aggravated by the lack of an essential food compound in modern man’s diet. That substance is vitamin B17. In its purified form developed for cancer therapy, it is known as Laetrile. This story is not approved by orthodox medicine. The FDA, the AMA, and The American Cancer Society have labeled it fraud and quackery. Yet the evidence is clear that here, at last, is the final answer to the cancer riddle. Why has orthodox medicine waged war against this non drug approach? The author contends that the answer is to be found, not in science, but in politics—and is based upon the hidden economic and power agenda of those who dominate the medical establishment. This is is the most complete and authoritativ...

HIE stands for "Health Information Exchange." An HIE allows medical records to be shared electronically between health care providers. HIEs rely on using networking technologies to enable your doctor to share records with another health care provider over the Internet, instead of, for example, sharing by fax. As a result, doctors participating in an HIE may have a much more complete picture of your medical history to work from, even if they have only had limited or even in some cases, no previous contact with you as a patient. The way this can work is as follows: you live in the city of San Diego proper, but your favorite Saturday get-away is a beach in Northern San Diego County. While up north one day, you go to an emergency room to get stitches after a mishap. The idea is that due to t...

From a young age, Clifford was raised to value his family and his education. However, tied with better education often was the decision to leave his home and his family. Clifford is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Chemical Biology at the University of California San Diego. His research focuses on recognizing new ways to identify diseased corals in Hawai‘i. Andrew Feenberg Canada Research Chair in Philosophy of Technology, School of Communication Date: Feb 11, 2010 Abstract Though we may be competent at using many technologies, most of what we think we know about technology in general is false. Our error stems from the everyday conception of things as separate from each other and from us. In reality they belong to an interconnected network the nodes of which cannot exist independently qua technologies. What is more we tend to see technologies as quasi-natural objects, but they are just as much social as natural, just as much determined by the meanings we give them as by the causal laws that rule over their powers. The errors of common sense have political consequences in domains such as medicine and environmental policy. In this talk I wi...

http://bookinghunter.com San Diego, California, is one of the most culturally diverse cities in the United States and, arguably, one of the most beautiful. The whitewashed stucco buildings give a Mediterranean-style flavor to the architecture while the culture has a decidedly Mexican influence to it (Tijuana is just a short drive over the border). Despite this foreign-country look and feel, the city of San Diego is uniquely American and a truly memorable place to visit. The most important places to visit in San Diego are: Mission Beach, Balboa Park (one of the greatest urban parks of the world. With museums and gardens inside the park, you can spend days there), Hotel Del Coronado (an amazing ocean front hotel and historic national landmark. It has hosted top celebrities, like Marilyn Mo...
Travel video about destination San Diego in the United States of America. For some, San Diego, a coastal city with a wonderful climate, is California's southernmost city, for others it is the northernmost city in Mexico. It is not quite as predictable as other U.S. metropolises and even the skyline promises something different. Palm trees, colorful flowerbeds and wonderful sandy beaches are typical of Southern California and are an open invitation to surfing and relaxation. The exclusivity of the beaches exudes an aura of luxurious living and the grand houses of the Coronado district are among the city's most prestigious. The long distance trains that travel through Amtrak Station connect San Diego with many other Californian cities and also with the bordering city of Santa Fe. The red t...

November 9, 2012 www.LifeofBrennan.com There are moments in life when you just need to be bold and follow your heart. For me it came just before the end of my sophomore year of college. I realized I was on a path where I’d most likely graduate, get a job, start a family, and work until retirement, and where many people may aspire to have all this, I knew I needed something different. With the help of a cousin I was able to get connected with an orphanage in Guatemala where I could volunteer. So I took a semester off and flew to Central America to begin what would be a life changing experience. I once heard that life is 10 percent of what happens to us and 90 percent of how we react to it, and by being immersed in that culture and living with those children I learned this lesson first...

Quicksands' Treasure FULL EPISODE - If you are a Florida Keys native or a treasure buff, chances are you know all about the stories of 16th century Spanish galleons that shipwrecked and spilled their fortunes across the shallows of the Keys. The most famous treasure story is that of the late Mel Fischer who devoted his life to the search for lost treasure and cashed out big in the end. In this episode, Rush and Ali are hunting fish in the same waters where the sea claimed so many lives in the past. They meet up with Dan Porter, another modern day treasure hunter and get to see what it takes to hunt treasure aboard his boat, the Sea Reaper. But modern day shipwrecks hold treasure of another type, though just as addicting. Cobia, grouper, snapper and more are the goal and X marks the spo...

Ever since I was a kid, I have always been mesmerized by extraordinary beauty of my hometown, San Diego. The city has many hidden treasures that have always captivated me, and they continue to do so. I wanted to show the city through my own eyes and artistic vision. I wanted to showcase San Diego from the eyes of somebody who has lived there their entire life. I have been working on this piece for about four months to really harness the details and create a visually striking Timelapse film. I’m very humbled that the VICE Creator's Project has covered this series with a new video: http://youtu.be/iioPicXsAFg The source footage for this video is a 4-minute shot from the Washington Street bridge above State Route 163 in San Diego captured at 2:39pm Oct 1, 2013. My aim is to reveal the color palette and color preferences of contemporary San Diego drivers in addition to traffic patterns and volumes. There are no CG elements, these are all real cars that have been removed from one sample and reorganized. The source footage may be viewed here: https://vimeo.com/81846560 More details on the methodology + are here: http://cysfilm.com/?p=3345 The San Diego Studies is a series of short videos that collapse time to reveal otherwise unobservable rhythms and movement in the city. The p...
Thomas Weller, a.k.a. “The San Diego Highwayman” has been rescuing people stranded on the side of the road for 48 years. When he was 16 years old, he drove his car into a ditch. A man came along and rescued him, asking only that Thomas pay it forward one day. Since that time, Weller has rescued thousands of people who were stranded in one way or another. Weller hands them a card that says “You don’t owe me a thing. I’ve been there too. Someone once helped me out, just the way I’m helping you. If you really want to pay me back, here’s what you do: don’t let the chain of love end with you. Back in August of 2011, Weller’s famous rescue car “Beulah” was totaled during a rescue. The remains of his prized car still sat in his back yard. Since the launch of this film, we've been able to raise...
This video was created from one hour of source footage shot from a bluff in San Diego the morning of Jan 21, 2014. I was interested in exploring the manipulation of water and to see how the movements and patterns from surfing interact. Watching surfing typically happens in one or two ways: in films/videos or in person standing on a pier, beach or bluff. In most surf films, the riders are so talented and the waves are so good it becomes an abstraction from the average viewer's/surfer’s experience at an average break. On the other hand, watching in person can be very slow and depending on the swell there may be long stretches when nothing happens at all. This video is a playful attempt to split the difference and reveal just how much can actually happen in an hour in an otherwise nondescript...
Photo booth rental San Diego (http://www.pixsterphotobooth.com) For a lot of companies, it’s the biggest corporate party they will throw all year. Every year in places like San Diego and Orange County, businesses big and small brainstorm ideas for a corporate holiday party that will reward their employees for their hard work during the past year. The party is a time to let loose, encourage camaraderie and build team chemistry. The last thing a business wants is for the party to be a dud. Whether it’s a themed party, a gala, a mixer, or a club-like atmosphere, an awesome photo booth rental will no doubt add a special ingredient that would be missing otherwise. If this is supposed to be one of the most fun work-related nights of the year for an employee, a keepsake is in order. No need ...

your love is a parking lot
with potholes and faded lines
and the kids don't hang because
the cops just chase them out
your love is a tow away zone
no parking unless you're willing
to pay the fine
you said we're as close as we
could be
well o.k. maybe you didn't
then you said you wanted intimacy
then you said you had to leave
your love is a chemical plant
ambiguous to the public
it's not secure to our melting
