Ani
Ani (Armenian: Անի; Greek: Ἄνιον, Ánion;Latin: Abnicum;Georgian: ანისი, Anisi;Turkish: Ani) is a ruined medieval Armenian city situated in the Turkish province of Kars near the border with Armenia.
Between 961 and 1045, it was the capital of the Bagratid Armenian kingdom that covered much of present-day Armenia and eastern Turkey. Called the "City of 1001 Churches", Ani stood on various trade routes and its many religious buildings, palaces, and fortifications were amongst the most technically and artistically advanced structures in the world. At its height, the population of Ani probably was on the order of 100,000.
Long ago renowned for its splendor and magnificence, Ani was sacked by the Mongols in 1236 and devastated in a 1319 earthquake, after which it was reduced to a village and gradually abandoned and largely forgotten by the seventeenth century. Ani is a widely recognized cultural, religious, and national heritage symbol for Armenians. According to Razmik Panossian, Ani is one of the most visible and ‘tangible’ symbols of past Armenian greatness and hence a source of pride.

Raden Haji Oma Irama (born December 11, 1946, in West Java), known as Rhoma Irama, is an Indonesian dangdut musician, actor and politician. During the height of his stardom in the 1970s, he was dubbed Raja Dangdut (the King of Dangdut) with his group Soneta.
Prior to his a pilgrimage to Mecca, he was known as Oma Irama. He is a member of aristocrat class of Sundanese from both his father, Raden Burdah Anggawirya, and mother, R.Hj. Tuti Juariah.
Career
Oma Irama's first bands were known as Tornado and Gayhand, and covered Western rock and roll music of Paul Anka, Andy Williams, and The Beatles.
In the late 1960s Oma Irama, sang orkes Melayu and also some pop Indonesia. In 1968 he joined the group Orkes Melayu Purnama in 1968. This group pioneered elements of the dangdut style within orkes Melayu music – the drum was changed to double drum, the electric guitar's role was expanded, and the suling, or bamboo flute, adopted a style reminiscent of Bollywood music. He also recorded pop Indonesia music during this period with the Zaenal Combo and Galaksi, while the album 'Ingkar Janji' was recorded in 1969 with Orkes Melayu Chandraleka.

More to Turkey than Istanbul
More often than not, people spend all their time in Turkey mostly in Istanbul. Some may diverted their time to cities along the Mediterranean sea or the cave city of Cappadocia. But Turkey has much more to offer than that especially in the east! After arriving in Istanbul, I was bombarded by the sight of throngs of tourists. The city itself is great and all but I just can't handle the crowds so my quest to get away from all the tourists began by starting off from Selcuk and traveled across the country through Pamukakle, Antalya, Fethiye, Faralya, Kabak, Goreme, Mt Nemrut, Van Trabzon and finally Kars where I crossed the border to Georgia (stay tuned for my next video about Georgia). Ani is a ruined medieval Armenian city-site situated in the Turkish province of Kars, near the border with Armenia.
Between 961 and 1045 it was the capital of the medieval (Bagratuni) Armenian Kingdom that covered much of present day Armenia and eastern Turkey. The city is located on a triangular site, visually dramatic and naturally defensive, protected on its eastern side by the ravine of the Akhurian River and on its western side by the Bostanlar or Tzaghkotzadzor valley. The Akhurian is a branch of the Araks River and forms part of the current border between Turkey and Armenia. Called the "City of 1001 Churches," Ani stood on various trade routes and its many religious buildings, palaces, and fortifications were amongst the most technically and artistically advanced structures in the world.

Before our departure for Kars, we enjoyed the Kahvalti one last time in Van:
Delicious breakfast of more than a dozen of dishes: goat and cow cheeses, grilled vegetables, soups, delicatessen and fried specialities (sigara boregi: cheese cigar, very addictive…) and of course a lot of sweets.
Daniel fell in love with some kind of heavy and humid chestnut cake which fills you up for the rest of the day, Magali found a nick name for the cake “the stomac plug” (yeks!). Bad idea! We didn’t see coming the numerous passes to reach our next stop and the “Schumacher” behaviour of the minivan driver. You can imagine how we felt arriving in Kars!
Kars is a peculiar little town of about 70’000 citizens, it kept influences of Russian occupation (1890 to 1920) with basalt stoned baltic style buildings. It is also a perfect base to visit Ani, the fantastic ancient ruins, located 45km away.
After a few days in Kars, we decided to stop in Trabzon on the Black Sea Coast. People seem to enjoy life and the nice weather, here in Trabzon. We were quite glad to come back to the Sea level after having spent the last 3 weeks in Iran and Eastern Anatolia where the average altitude was close to 1600m.
The day after, we visited Uzungöl, also called the Switzerland of Turkey by locals. We couldn’t miss it!
We didn’t read our travel guide before leaving for Uzungöl “…with its lakeside mosque and forested mountains that recall Switzerland, Uzungöl (Long Lake) remains idyllic, but be prepared for more than a few tacky hotels (there are currently 1500 rooms here) and a growing number of visitors from the Gulf States, where they never see rain or green grass…”
A short, but pleasant, hike under the rain was our punishment.

Until the 1960’s Bhutan was protected from intruders due to its geographical location and was totally cut off from the outside world. Thimphu is the capital of Bhutan. On the northern edge of the city on the banks of the Wang River is the Pangri Zampa Temple, two impressive white buildings in the centre of a monastery. A school of astrology is located behind an unusually long prayer wall of carved stones surrounded by a forest of cypress trees. The road to Punakha travels across the Dochula Pass from the top of which more than a hundred chortens appear in the mist. A chorten is a container for religious offerings that symbolize Buddha’s consciousness in the Himalayan countries, and are therefore sacred. As quickly as it arrives, the fog vanishes, and the Druk Wangyal Ihakhang Temple suddenly appears out of nowhere. At the end of a valley, about fifteen kilometres from Paro, and located on a hill, is the once proud Drukgyal Dzong Fortress. At its foot, the beautiful village of Tsento nestling against protective rocks and surrounded by fertile fields which are brown or green according to the season of the year. Bhutan is an amazing country has retained its ancient traditions, religious secrets and cultural identity.

More often than not, people spend all their time in Turkey mostly in Istanbul. Some may diverted their time to cities along the Mediterranean sea or the cave city of Cappadocia. But Turkey has much more to offer than that especially in the east!
After arriving in Istanbul, I was bombarded by the sight of throngs of tourists. The city itself is great and all but I just can't handle the crowds so my quest to get away from all the tourists began by starting off from Selcuk and traveled across the country through Pamukakle, Antalya, Fethiye, Faralya, Kabak, Goreme, Mt Nemrut, Van Trabzon and finally Kars where I crossed the border to Georgia (stay tuned for my next video about Georgia).
During my one month time, I had the opportunity to experience Ramadan with the Turkish people, went on my first break fast and got invited for tea by the locals where I almost got married (jokingly). I also paraglided in Pamukkale, camped in Faralya, swam along the Mediterranean coast (Butterfly Valley, Kabak and the secret Paradise Beach), Hiked all the Valleys in Cappadocia, climbed Mt Nemrut, met up with my friend I met in New Zealand in the Asian side of Istanbul, swam in Lake Van, see the Sumela Monastery, and walked across the plain of Ani. Turkey is definitely one of its kind and I encouraged you to go further east to see the real Turkey!

Specialist Hilda Clayton, 22, and four Afghan National Army soldiers died after a mortar shell exploded on 2 July 2013 during a training exercise ...
