A girl, 4, has saved her mother after a serious Taree quad bike crash.

The 35-year-old woman inadvertently drove down a steep slope before losing control of the caged quad bike on a private driveway off Bakers Creek Road in Bundook.

The quad rolled several times, coming to rest about 100 metres off the roadway and pinning its rider by the leg.

She suffered a fracture and several serious cuts.

The woman's daughter saw the crash from the family home, roughly 700 metres away, and ran to her mother.

She fell and sustained grazes on her face as she made her way to her mother, who she tended to before climbing back to the road, returning home and calling Triple Zero.

The woman was released several hours later and eventually flown to the John Hunter Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Manning Great Lakes police will formally acknowledge the child for her "quick thinking and life-saving actions".

Police are urging anyone with information on the incident to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
