Priscilla Maria Veronica White OBE (27 May 1943 – 1 August 2015), known by her stage name Cilla Black, was an English singer, television presenter, actress, and author.
Championed by her friends the Beatles, she began her career as a singer in 1963, and her singles "Anyone Who Had a Heart" and "You're My World" both reached number one in the UK in 1964. Black had eleven Top Ten hits on the British charts between then and 1971. In May 2010, new research published by BBC Radio 2 showed that her version of "Anyone Who Had a Heart" was the UK's biggest selling single by a female artist in the 1960s. "You're My World" was also a modest hit in the US, peaking at No. 26 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Along with a successful recording career in the 1960s and early 1970s, Black hosted her own variety show, Cilla, for the BBC between 1968 and 1976. After a brief time as a comedy actress in the mid-1970s, she became a prominent television presenter in the 1980s and 1990s, hosting hit entertainment shows such as Blind Date (1985–2003), The Moment of Truth (1998–2001) and Surprise Surprise (1984–2001).

Plot: Tynesides 'Premier fanny rat' Sidnet Smutt stars in this fiesta of drinking, fighting and chasing women. His exploits are accompanied by his drinking mates Baz, Bob and Joe. Together they blunder their way through the social scene of Newcastle upon Tyne. The film is divided in to five parts. The first, 'Oot on the tap' tells the tale of a Friday night out in the pub, curry house, night club and kebab shop. The second, 'Eurosidney' sees the lads unsuccessfully on the pull in Spain, although Sid's big mouth gets him deported. The third, 'Sid's ship comes in', finally sees him find female attention. The fourth, 'Sid's blind date', sees Sid on the famous ITV game show, and the final episode 'The big pull' has Sidney trying to inconspicuously purchase a top shelf magazine from the newsagents.

Although the original Italian version by composer Umberto Bindi was not a hit, even in Italy, the song came to the attention of UK record producer George Martin, who commissioned an English version to be recorded by his protégée Cilla Black. Black cut the song — translated as "You're My World" — at Abbey Road Studios with Johnny Pearson conducting his orchestra and The Breakaways providing background vocals; Black has said that her manager and future husband Bobby Willis also sang on the track. Judd Proctor was the lead guitarist on the session. You're My World" reached No. 1 in Britain on the chart dated 30 May 1964 and remained there for a total of four weeks, one week more than Black's preceding single "Anyone Who Had a Heart". Although Black would return to the UK Top Ten eight times...
One of the best recordings to come out of the British Invasion of 1964 was Cilla Black's "You're My World. " Originally written in Italian, English lyrics were created by the noted American lyricist, Carl Sigman. "You're My World," recorded on the Parlophone label, reached number 1 in Britain and number 26 in the United States in 1964. Cilla Black (Priscilla White) was a cloakroom attendant at the Cavern Club in Liverpool when she was discovered by John Lennon. She went on to become one of the most successful female performers in the UK. I do not own the right to the song, audio, or images contained in this video. The sound recording is administered by EMI. After the terribly sad and very upsetting news of Cilla's death, I decided to upload a Christmas show I have from 1983, so that others can enjoy it. The quality of the 32 year old recording from my Betamax recorder isn't too good, but certainly viewable. You'll see quite a few faces of some old celebs, some of them sadly now gone. Let me what you think. ... enjoy!!
