Lorraine Fox

Lorraine Fox (1922–1976) was an American illustrator and commercial artist who illustrated magazines, book covers, and advertisements. Among the magazines she illustrated for were Woman's Day, Good Housekeeping, Redbook, McCall's, and Cosmopolitan. She taught at Parsons School of Design and Famous Artists School. Fox married Bernard D'Andrea, an illustrator that she met at Pratt, and they inspired one another and often exhibited together. She was inducted into the Society of Illustrators' Hall of Fame in 1979.

Early life

Fox was born in Brooklyn on May 22, 1922. She was the daughter of Theodore, an accountant, and Florence Gatto Fox. Lorraine Fox's brother is the cartoonist and comic book artist Gill Fox, who gave Lorraine confidence to explore her artistic talents, and was inspired by Lorraine to create illustrations. Her mother cleaned houses to pay for her daughter's tuition to Pratt Institute.

Education

Lorraine Fox graduated from Pratt Institute in 1944. She met fellow illustrator Bernard D'Andrea at Pratt and they inspired each other's talent. Beginning in 1961, she studied painting for four years at Brooklyn Museum Art School with Reuben Tam and her work took on a more mature and deeper emotional quality.

Lorraine

Lorraine (French pronunciation: ​[lɔʁɛn]; Lorrain: Louréne; Lorraine Franconian: Lottringe; German:  Lothringen ; Luxembourgish: Loutrengen) is a cultural and historical region in north-eastern France, now located in the administrative region of Alsace-Champagne-Ardenne-Lorraine. Lorraine's name stems from the medieval kingdom of Lotharingia, which in turn was named for either Emperor Lothair I or King Lothair II. It became later the Duchy of Lorraine before it was annexed to France in 1766.

From 1982 until January 2016, Lorraine was an administrative region of France, when it became part of the new region Alsace-Champagne-Ardenne-Lorraine. As a region in modern France, Lorraine consisted of the four departments Meurthe-et-Moselle, Meuse, Moselle and Vosges, containing 2,337 communes. The regional prefecture was Metz, although the largest metropolitan area of Lorraine is Nancy.

Lorraine makes up nearly half of France's border with Germany, and also borders Belgium and Luxembourg. Its inhabitants are called "Lorrains" in French and number about 2,356,000.

Lorraine Kelly

Lorraine Kelly, OBE (born 30 November 1959) is a British television presenter, journalist and actress, best known as a presenter for TV-am, and later GMTV and ITV Breakfast, on Daybreak and Lorraine. Previously, she was a reporter and main presenter of TV-am's Good Morning Britain, one of the UK's original breakfast television news programmes.

Between 2012 and 2014, Kelly was a main female presenter of ITV's Daybreak, which she co-hosted from Monday to Thursdays with Aled Jones.

Early life

Kelly was born in the Gorbals, Glasgow. She is of Irish ancestry and Kelly's father, John, worked as a television repairman. She spent the first few years of her life in Glasgow before the family moved to East Kilbride where she attended Claremont High School. She turned down a university place to read English and Russian in favour of a job on the East Kilbride News, her local newspaper, and then joined BBC Scotland as a researcher in 1983. She moved to TV-am as an on-screen reporter covering Scottish news in 1984.

Top Five

Top Five is a 2014 American comedy film written and directed by Chris Rock. The film, which stars Rock, Rosario Dawson, and Gabrielle Union, was screened in the Special Presentations section of the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival. The movie follows New York City comedian and film star Andre Allen (Rock), who has to confront his past and comedic career while doing an interview with journalist Chelsea Brown (Dawson). The film was released on December 12, 2014, by Paramount Pictures.

Plot

New York Times reporter Chelsea Brown is spending a day interviewing comedian and recovering alcoholic Andre Allen, star of the hit film franchise Hammy The Bear, about a cop in a bear suit. He is attempting a foray into serious films with Uprize, in which he portrays Haitian Revolution figure Dutty Boukman, and sensitive to criticism, particularly by Times critic James Nielson, whose previous reviews of Andre's work have been negative and insulting. As the interview begins in his limousine, Andre recalls his lowest point, when he was in Houston in 2003 and met Jazzy Dee, who supplied him with drugs, alcohol and women. Yet after Jazzy refused to pay the women, they contended they were raped, leading to Andre's arrest.

Laurence Fox

Laurence Paul Fox (born 26 May 1978) is an English actor, singer-songwriter and guitarist, best known for his leading role as Detective Inspector James Hathaway in the British TV drama series Lewis from 2006 to 2015.

Early years and education

The third of five children of actor James Fox and his wife Mary Elizabeth Piper, His father James was the son of Major Robin Fox, theatrical agent, who married Angela Muriel Darita Worthington, a natural daughter of Frederick Lonsdale. Laurence Fox was born in 1978 in Yorkshire. At the age of thirteen he entered Harrow School where, according to him, he was "shy around women, sensitive and a bit naïve". Although he made friends and liked the drama teacher, he hated the school's strict regimen and felt despised and out of place among pupils with titles and wealth. Constantly in trouble for smoking, fighting, going into town and seeing girls, he was eventually expelled a few weeks before his A-levels. According to him, "It was something to do with a girl at a dance. I went back to take the exams, but I wasn't allowed to speak to anyone." With hindsight, Fox has said that his experience at Harrow enabled him to portray "toffs" – the upper-class boys looking down on him and whom he disliked – with much insight and cynicism.
