A common question I get asked is why do I make my miter saw cuts in two passes instead of one? When making a wider cut at my miter saw I almost always score the top surface with a very shallow cut as I pull the saw to me, then plunge down at the near end of the work piece, then push through towards the fence to complete the cut. The reason for this is to get a smoother top surface after the cut. The blade can cut in two directions; as it enters the material and as it exits the material. Any time the blade is cutting as it exits the material you have a greater chance of the exit surface tearing out due to lack of material support. So by making a very shallow scoring cut on top as the saw is pulled back you are cutting into the material which results in a much cleaner cut. Then as the saw is plunged and the final through-cut is made the rest of the material is cut on the intake side of the blade as well.
The top scoring cut is technically considered a climb cut because the blade is cutting in a direction opposite of the travel of the tool. When making a climb cut on any tool you have the risk of a tool "climbing" where the tool want's to grab instead of cut and increase the speed of travel, sometimes faster than what you are prepared for. A very shallow scoring cut decreases the risk of this happening but the possibility is still there. If you make a cut like this always make sure you have nothing in the path of the blade, you have the material firmly secured, and you are aware of the potential hazards that could happen.

Cuts
Cuts is an American sitcom that aired on the UPN network from February 14, 2005, to May 11, 2006, and is a spin-off of another UPN series, One on One. The show was canceled along with many other shows when the UPN and WB networks merged to form The CW.
Premise
For years, the Barnes' family-run barber shop was a place where guys could get a haircut while socializing and discussing anything. But when the barber shop is sold out from underneath prodigal son Kevin Barnes (played by Houston), he finds himself co-managing the shop with the new owner's spoiled daughter Tiffany Sherwood (played by Elizabeth), a rich party girl who has never worked a day in her life. Despite their differing ideas of how to make the shop a success, Kevin and Tiffany together deal with the many challenges that arise when their very opposite worlds collide. The show is set in Baltimore, Maryland.

The Cuts were a rock and roll band from Oakland, California.
The Cuts were formed by Carlos Palacios, Andy Jordan and Eric Johnson in 1998. Johnson left the band and Palacios, Jordan, Carson Bell, Elizabeth Dotzler and Garrett Goddard solidified this initial lineup. After winning a talent contest in 1999, the Cuts released their Heart Attack 7 on Lookout Records, "Probably the last good record that graced the Lookout label".. The group went on tour with The Donnas in 1999 after which Bell left the band. The Cuts then recorded their first self-titled LP for Rock N Roll Blitzkrieg. "Danny James" Aaberg replaced Dotzler on keys in late 2000, joining original members Jordan, Palacios and Godard. In 2001, the Cuts moved to El Paso to live cheaply and work on their writing, resulting in their second LP—Two Over Ten, which began the band's five year stint with Birdman Records. Ben Brown joined up on lead guitar for the third Cuts album. From Here On Out, released in 2006 with glowing reviews, was not enough to save The Cuts: later the same year, Danny James took his exit, and, after a couple gigs with keyboard wizard Joel Robinow, the Cuts decided to call it quits. In 2012, The Cuts reunited for select dates.

For years, the Barnes' family-run barbershop was a place where guys can get a trim while shooting the breeze about anything. But when the barbershop is sold out from underneath prodigal son Kevin Barnes, he finds himself co-managing the shop with the new owner's spoiled daughter Tiffany, a rich party girl who has never worked a day in her life. Despite their differing ideas of how to make the shop a success, Kevin and Tiffany will have to deal with the many challenges that arise when these two very opposite worlds collide.

Better Cuts at a Sliding Miter Saw - #WoodworkingQuickTip
A common question I get asked is why do I make my miter saw cuts in two passes instead of one? When making a wider cut at my miter saw I almost always score the top surface with a very shallow cut as I pull the saw to me, then plunge down at the near end of the work piece, then push through towards the fence to complete the cut. The reason for this is to get a smoother top surface after the cut. The blade can cut in two directions; as it enters the material and as it exits the material. Any time the blade is cutting as it exits the material you have a greater chance of the exit surface tearing out due to lack of material support. A common question I get asked is why do I make my miter saw cuts in two passes instead of one? When making a wider cut at my miter saw I almost always score the top surface with a very shallow cut as I pull the saw to me, then plunge down at the near end of the work piece, then push through towards the fence to complete the cut. The reason for this is to get a smoother top surface after the cut. The blade can cut in two directions; as it enters the material and as it exits the material. Any time the blade is cutting as it exits the material you have a greater chance of the exit surface tearing out due to lack of material support. So by making a very shallow scoring cut on top as the saw is pulled back you are cutting into the material which results in a much cleaner cut. Then as the saw is plunged and the final through-cut is made the rest of the material is cut on the intake side of the blade as well.
The top scoring cut is technically considered a climb cut because the blade is cutting in a direction opposite of the travel of the tool. When making a climb cut on any tool you have the risk of a tool "climbing" where the tool want's to grab instead of cut and increase the speed of travel, sometimes faster than what you are prepared for. A very shallow scoring cut decreases the risk of this happening but the possibility is still there. If you make a cut like this always make sure you have nothing in the path of the blade, you have the material firmly secured, and you are aware of the potential hazards that could happen.

Better Cuts at a Sliding Miter Saw - #WoodworkingQuickTip
A common question I get asked is why do I make my miter saw cuts in two passes instead of one? When making a wider cut at my miter saw I almost always score the top surface with a very shallow cut as I pull the saw to me, then plunge down at the near end of the work piece, then push through towards the fence to complete the cut. The reason for this is to get a smoother top surface after the cut. The blade can cut in two directions; as it enters the material and as it exits the material. Any time the blade is cutting as it exits the material you have a greater chance of the exit surface tearing out due to lack of material support. So by making a very shallow scoring cut on top as the saw is pulled back you are cutting into the material which results in a much cleaner cut. Then as the saw is...

A common question I get asked is why do I make my miter saw cuts in two passes instead of one? When making a wider cut at my miter saw I almost always score the top surface with a very shallow cut as I pull the saw to me, then plunge down at the near end of the work piece, then push through towards the fence to complete the cut. The reason for this is to get a smoother top surface after the cut. The blade can cut in two directions; as it enters the material and as it exits the material. Any time the blade is cutting as it exits the material you have a greater chance of the exit surface tearing out due to lack of material support. So by making a very shallow scoring cut on top as the saw is pulled back you are cutting into the material which results in a much cleaner cut. Then as the saw is plunged and the final through-cut is made the rest of the material is cut on the intake side of the blade as well.
The top scoring cut is technically considered a climb cut because the blade is cutting in a direction opposite of the travel of the tool. When making a climb cut on any tool you have the risk of a tool "climbing" where the tool want's to grab instead of cut and increase the speed of travel, sometimes faster than what you are prepared for. A very shallow scoring cut decreases the risk of this happening but the possibility is still there. If you make a cut like this always make sure you have nothing in the path of the blade, you have the material firmly secured, and you are aware of the potential hazards that could happen.
