Il Saul è una delle tragedie più riuscite di Vittorio Alfieri, tanto che lo stesso autore recitò spesso la parte del protagonista. L'opera fu scritta nel 1782 in endecasillabi sciolti; è composta da 5 atti e dedicata all'amico Tommaso Valperga di Caluso, docente di greco e di lingue orientali. La vicenda richiama quella tratta nella Bibbia riguardante la battaglia fra Saul, primo re di Israele, e i Filistei, ma se nel Libro Sacro la figura di Saul è rappresentata come l'imprevedibile e immotivato esito di un'inspiegabile follia, nella tragedia alfieriana diventa l'agire di una figura psicologicamente complessa e tormentata, a tre dimensioni. Nella narrazione l'Alfieri si attiene all'unità di tempo, spazio e azione tipicamente aristotelici; secondo questi canoni, dunque, nel Saul gli eventi hanno inizio poco prima del sorgere dell'alba per concludersi al tramonto del giorno seguente (unità di tempo); la vicenda è tutta concentrata nel campo d'Israele a Gelboè (unità di luogo); l'attenzione dell'autore è puntata sulla figura del protagonista, con la conseguente riduzione del numero dei personaggi secondari che agiscono essenzialmente in funzione di Saul (unità di azione). Considerato il capolavoro di Alfieri, "Saul" è una tragedia lineare nell'intreccio ma potente e drammatica. In primo piano la figura del sovrano: nel suo animo nobile e sensibile albergano uno smisurato orgoglio e una cupezza sconsolata; diviso tra cielo e terra, ribelle a Dio, non riesce a dominare l'anelito che lo avvelena: oltrepassare "il limite". Vittima della sua brama di potere si macchia di crudeltà e delitti, pur consapevole che porteranno solo rovina. Il contrasto insanabile stringe a poco a poco Saul nel cerchio della follia, da cui evade con un ultimo gesto: l'eroico suicidio, catarsi della tragedia. Alfieri giunge con il Saul alla consapevolezza della reale miseria della condizione umana, che è ben rappresentata dal titano orgoglioso che scopre la sua intima debolezza, e non ha la forza di opporvisi attivamente perché non ha nessuno contro cui lottare, in quanto il disagio è tutto interiore, tanto che va incontro deliberatamente alla morte, unica forma di liberazione dal suo tormento. L'adattamento televisivo in due tempi venne trasmesso dalla RAI il 6 novembre 1959 sul Programma Nazionale, con la regia di Claudio Fino, la scenografia di Mariano Mercuri e le musiche originali di Fiorenzo Carpi. Magistrale fu l'interpretazione di Salvo Randone.

Trama:
La vicenda si apre nell'accampamento degli ebrei, nell'imminenza della battaglia contro i Filistei. Il re Saul è inquieto e preoccupato in quanto durante la battaglia non potrà contare sull'appoggio di David, marito di sua figlia Micol, che era stato costretto a fuggire perché sospettato dallo stesso re di aspirare al potere e quindi da lui condannato a morte (si era infatti rifugiato in terre filistee e per questo accusato di tradimento). Tuttavia David decide si raggiungere il campo ebraico per combattere e dimostrare al re la sua fedeltà. Saul, convinto della fiducia del giovane, lo rinomina comandante dell'esercito. Ben presto però ricade preda della follia e vede come nemici anche i sacerdoti; parla infatti con Achimelech (primo sacerdote), il quale gli racconta la sua felicità e quella dei suoi confratelli per il ritorno di David ritenuto,da loro, come futuro erede al trono di Israele (designato da Dio). Il re fa uccidere tutti i sacerdoti e dà l'ordine di uccidere anche David mentre fugge. Saul è ormai in preda al delirio (infatti gli appaiono in sogno i fantasmi dei sacerdoti uccisi che gli annunciano la sciagura) e, mentre assiste impotente alla sconfitta dell'esercito ebraico, si trafigge con la propria spada.

Series Premise:
The program was broadcast every Sunday evening at 9:00 pm EST, beginning February 1, 1953, and ending May 27, 1962. Each of the estimated 209 television episodes was an adaptation of a novel, short story, play, film, or magazine fiction with different Actors each week. The actors included well known and up-and-coming film stars as well as new stars of the developing television industry. On September 26, 1954, Ronald Reagan debuted as the only host of the program. GE added a host to provide continuity in the anthology format.

An alien spacecraft comes to Earth, while searching the galaxy for a planet suitable to raise "gargons," a lobster-like (but air-breathing) creature which is a delicacy on their homeworld. Thor (Bryan Grant), the lead alien, shows his contempt for Earth's creatures by vaporizing a dog named Sparky. Crewmember Derek (David Love), after discovering an inscription on Sparky's dog tag, fears that the gargon might destroy Earth's local inhabitants, making the other spacemen scoff. Being members of the "supreme race", they disdain "foreign beings," no matter how intelligent and pride themselves that families and friendships are forbidden on their world. Derek turns out to be a member of an underground which commemorates more humane periods of his world's history. Their one gargon seems to be sick in Earth's atmosphere. While his crewmates are distracted, Derek flees. Eventually, the gargon seems to revive. When the Captain reports Derek's actions, he is connected to the Leader (Gene Sterling) himself. It turns out that Derek is the Leader's son, though Derek is unaware of this. Thor is sent to hunt Derek down, with orders to kill to protect the mission. They return to their base, leaving the gargon behind.
Meanwhile, Derek finds the home address found on the dog tag. He meets Betty Morgan (Dawn Anderson) and her Grandpa Joe (Harvey B. Dunn). They have a room to rent, and Derek inadvertently becomes a boarder. When Betty's boyfriend, reporter Joe Rogers (Tom Graeff), can't make their afternoon plans, Derek tags along with Betty. He shows the tag to Betty, who recognizes it immediately. Derek takes her to the place where the ship landed, and shows her Sparky's remains. She doesn't believe him, so he describes Thor's weapon that that vaporizes flesh. Betty takes this surprisingly well and vows to help Derek stop the bad guys. For the rest of the day Betty and Derek have several run-ins with Thor and Joe follows up on stories of skeletons popping up all over town, including in Alice's swimming pool. Eventually Thor is wounded and he kidnaps Betty and Derek for medical attention, he reveals Derek's true parentage. Two car chases and a gunfight ensue and Thor is finally captured by authorities after plummeting off a cliff in a stolen car.
But there are bigger problems: the gargon has grown immensely, killing a policeman investigating the landing site and attacking numerous people. Derek and Betty go to the car wreck to look for Thor's gun. They share a kiss, and Derek vows to stay on Earth. When the gargon ruins their romantic moment, Derek finds the gun just in time for them to escape. Unfortunately the gun is damaged and the monster is heading toward the town. They head out once again to confront it, using power lines to fuel the disintegrator. They kill the gargon, but it's too late as enemy ships suddenly appear overhead. The whole gang, including Joe and Grandpa, hurries out to the landing site. Derek reunites with his father and makes the ultimate sacrifice by leading the fleet directly into the hillside, causing a massive explosion. Derek does not survive, but is remembered for declairing, "I shall make the Earth my home. And I shall never, never leave it."

According to the Hebrew Bible, Saul (/sɔːl/; Hebrew: שָׁאוּל, Šāʼûl ; "asked for, prayed for"; Latin: Saul; Arabic: طالوت, Ṭālūt or Arabic: شاؤل, Shā'ūl) was the first king of a united Kingdom of Israel and Judah. His reign, traditionally placed in the late 11th century BCE, would have marked a switch from a tribal society to statehood.
The oldest accounts of Saul's life and reign are found in the Hebrew Bible. He was reluctantly anointed by the prophet Samuel in response to a popular movement to establish a monarchy, and reigned from Gibeah. After initial successes he lost favor with Samuel and God because of his disobedience to God. His son-in-law, David, was chosen by God to be a king. He fell on his sword (committed suicide) to avoid capture at the battle against the Philistines at Mount Gilboa. He was succeeded by his son, Ish-bosheth, whose brief reign was successfully contested by David. A similar yet different account of Saul's life is given in the Qur'an. Neither the length of Saul's reign, nor the extent of his territory are given in the Biblical account; the former is traditionally fixed at twenty or twenty-two years, but there is no reliable evidence for these numbers.

An alien spacecraft comes to Earth, while searching the galaxy for a planet suitable to raise "gargons," a lobster-like (but air-breathing) creature which is a delicacy on their homeworld. Thor (Bryan Grant), the lead alien, shows his contempt for Earth's creatures by vaporizing a dog named Sparky. Crewmember Derek (David Love), after discovering an inscription on Sparky's dog tag, fears that the gargon might destroy Earth's local inhabitants, making the other spacemen scoff. Being members of the "supreme race", they disdain "foreign beings," no matter how intelligent and pride themselves that families and friendships are forbidden on their world. Derek turns out to be a member of an underground which commemorates more humane periods of his world's history. Their one gargon seems to be sick in Earth's atmosphere. While his crewmates are distracted, Derek flees. Eventually, the gargon seems to revive. When the Captain reports Derek's actions, he is connected to the Leader (Gene Sterling) himself. It turns out that Derek is the Leader's son, though Derek is unaware of this. Thor is sent to hunt Derek down, with orders to kill to protect the mission. They return to their base, leaving the gargon behind. Meanwhile, Derek finds the home address found on the dog tag. He meets Betty Morgan (Dawn Anderson) and her Grandpa Joe (Harvey B. Dunn). They have a room to rent, and Derek inadvertently becomes a boarder. When Betty's boyfriend, reporter Joe Rogers (Tom Graeff), can't make their afternoon plans, Derek tags along with Betty. He shows the tag to Betty, who recognizes it immediately. Derek takes her to the place where the ship landed, and shows her Sparky's remains. She doesn't believe him, so he describes Thor's weapon that that vaporizes flesh. Betty takes this surprisingly well and vows to help Derek stop the bad guys. For the rest of the day Betty and Derek have several run-ins with Thor and Joe follows up on stories of skeletons popping up all over town, including in Alice's swimming pool. Eventually Thor is wounded and he kidnaps Betty and Derek for medical attention, he reveals Derek's true parentage. Two car chases and a gunfight ensue and Thor is finally captured by authorities after plummeting off a cliff in a stolen car. But there are bigger problems: the gargon has grown immensely, killing a policeman investigating the landing site and attacking numerous people. Derek and Betty go to the car wreck to look for Thor's gun. They share a kiss, and Derek vows to stay on Earth. When the gargon ruins their romantic moment, Derek finds the gun just in time for them to escape. Unfortunately the gun is damaged and the monster is heading toward the town. They head out once again to confront it, using power lines to fuel the disintegrator. They kill the gargon, but it's too late as enemy ships suddenly appear overhead. The whole gang, including Joe and Grandpa, hurries out to the landing site. Derek reunites with his father and makes the ultimate sacrifice by leading the fleet directly into the hillside, causing a massive explosion. Derek does not survive, but is remembered for declairing, "I shall make the Earth my home. Plot: Erica is unmarried only temporarily in that her successful, wealthy husband of seventeen years has just left her for a girl he met while buying a shirt in Bloomingdale's. Il Saul è una delle tragedie più riuscite di Vittorio Alfieri, tanto che lo stesso autore recitò spesso la parte del protagonista. L'opera fu scritta nel 1782 in endecasillabi sciolti; è composta da 5 atti e dedicata all'amico Tommaso Valperga di Caluso, docente di greco e di lingue orientali. La vicenda richiama quella tratta nella Bibbia riguardante la battaglia fra Saul, primo re di Israele, e i Filistei, ma se nel Libro Sacro la figura di Saul è rappresentata come l'imprevedibile e immotivato esito di un'inspiegabile follia, nella tragedia alfieriana diventa l'agire di una figura psicologicamente complessa e tormentata, a tre dimensioni. Nella narrazione l'Alfieri si attiene all'unità di tempo, spazio e azione tipicamente aristotelici; secondo questi canoni, dunque, nel Saul gli eventi hanno inizio poco prima del sorgere dell'alba per concludersi al tramonto del giorno seguente (unità di tempo); la vicenda è tutta concentrata nel campo d'Israele a Gelboè (unità di luogo); l'attenzione dell'autore è puntata sulla figura del protagonista, con la conseguente riduzione del numero dei personaggi secondari che agiscono essenzialmente in funzione di Saul (unità di azione). Considerato il capolavoro di Alfieri, "Saul" è una tragedia lineare nell'intreccio ma potente e drammatica. In primo piano la figura del sovrano: nel suo animo nobile e sensibile albergano uno smisurato orgoglio e una cupezza sconsolata; diviso tra cielo e terra, ribelle a Dio, non riesce a dominare l'anelito che lo avvelena: oltrepassare "il limite". La vicenda si apre nell'accampamento degli ebrei, nell'imminenza della battaglia contro i Filistei. Il re Saul è inquieto e preoccupato in quanto durante la battaglia non potrà contare sull'appoggio di David, marito di sua figlia Micol, che era stato costretto a fuggire perché sospettato dallo stesso re di aspirare al potere e quindi da lui condannato a morte (si era infatti rifugiato in terre filistee e per questo accusato di tradimento). Tuttavia David decide si raggiungere il campo ebraico per combattere e dimostrare al re la sua fedeltà. Saul, convinto della fiducia del giovane, lo rinomina comandante dell'esercito. Ben presto però ricade preda della follia e vede come nemici anche i sacerdoti; parla infatti con Achimelech (primo sacerdote), il quale gli racconta la sua felicità e quella dei suoi confratelli per il ritorno di David ritenuto,da loro, come futuro erede al trono di Israele (designato da Dio). Il re fa uccidere tutti i sacerdoti e dà l'ordine di uccidere anche David mentre fugge. Saul è ormai in preda al delirio (infatti gli appaiono in sogno i fantasmi dei sacerdoti uccisi che gli annunciano la sciagura) e, mentre assiste impotente alla sconfitta dell'esercito ebraico, si trafigge con la propria spada.

Il Saul è una delle tragedie più riuscite di Vittorio Alfieri, tanto che lo stesso autore recitò spesso la parte del protagonista. L'opera fu scritta nel 1782 in endecasillabi sciolti; è composta da 5 atti e dedicata all'amico Tommaso Valperga di Caluso, docente di greco e di lingue orientali. La vicenda richiama quella tratta nella Bibbia riguardante la battaglia fra Saul, primo re di Israele, e i Filistei, ma se nel Libro Sacro la figura di Saul è rappresentata come l'imprevedibile e immotivato esito di un'inspiegabile follia, nella tragedia alfieriana diventa l'agire di una figura psicologicamente complessa e tormentata, a tre dimensioni. Nella narrazione l'Alfieri si attiene all'unità di tempo, spazio e azione tipicamente aristotelici; secondo questi canoni, dunque, nel Saul gli eventi hanno inizio poco prima del sorgere dell'alba per concludersi al tramonto del giorno seguente (unità di tempo); la vicenda è tutta concentrata nel campo d'Israele a Gelboè (unità di luogo); l'attenzione dell'autore è puntata sulla figura del protagonista, con la conseguente riduzione del numero dei personaggi secondari che agiscono essenzialmente in funzione di Saul (unità di azione). Considerato il capolavoro di Alfieri, "Saul" è una tragedia lineare nell'intreccio ma potente e drammatica. In primo piano la figura del sovrano: nel suo animo nobile e sensibile albergano uno smisurato orgoglio e una cupezza sconsolata; diviso tra cielo e terra, ribelle a Dio, non riesce a dominare l'anelito che lo avvelena: oltrepassare "il limite". An alien spacecraft comes to Earth, while searching the galaxy for a planet suitable to raise "gargons," a lobster-like (but air-breathing) creature which is a delicacy on their homeworld. Thor (Bryan Grant), the lead alien, shows his contempt for Earth's creatures by vaporizing a dog named Sparky. Crewmember Derek (David Love), after discovering an inscription on Sparky's dog tag, fears that the gargon might destroy Earth's local inhabitants, making the other spacemen scoff. Being members of the "supreme race", they disdain "foreign beings," no matter how intelligent and pride themselves that families and friendships are forbidden on their world. Derek turns out to be a member of an underground which commemorates more humane periods of his world's history. Their one gargon seems to be sick in Earth's atmosphere. While his crewmates are distracted, Derek flees. Eventually, the gargon seems to revive. When the Captain reports Derek's actions, he is connected to the Leader (Gene Sterling) himself. It turns out that Derek is the Leader's son, though Derek is unaware of this. Thor is sent to hunt Derek down, with orders to kill to protect the mission. They return to their base, leaving the gargon behind.
Meanwhile, Derek finds the home address found on the dog tag. He meets Betty Morgan (Dawn Anderson) and her Grandpa Joe (Harvey B. Dunn). They have a room to rent, and Derek inadvertently becomes a boarder. When Betty's boyfriend, reporter Joe Rogers (Tom Graeff), can't make their afternoon plans, Derek tags along with Betty. He shows the tag to Betty, who recognizes it immediately. Derek takes her to the place where the ship landed, and shows her Sparky's remains. She doesn't believe him, so he describes Thor's weapon that that vaporizes flesh. Betty takes this surprisingly well and vows to help Derek stop the bad guys. For the rest of the day Betty and Derek have several run-ins with Thor and Joe follows up on stories of skeletons popping up all over town, including in Alice's swimming pool. Eventually Thor is wounded and he kidnaps Betty and Derek for medical attention, he reveals Derek's true parentage. Two car chases and a gunfight ensue and Thor is finally captured by authorities after plummeting off a cliff in a stolen car.
But there are bigger problems: the gargon has grown immensely, killing a policeman investigating the landing site and attacking numerous people. Derek and Betty go to the car wreck to look for Thor's gun. They share a kiss, and Derek vows to stay on Earth. When the gargon ruins their romantic moment, Derek finds the gun just in time for them to escape. Unfortunately the gun is damaged and the monster is heading toward the town. They head out once again to confront it, using power lines to fuel the disintegrator. They kill the gargon, but it's too late as enemy ships suddenly appear overhead. The whole gang, including Joe and Grandpa, hurries out to the landing site. Derek reunites with his father and makes the ultimate sacrifice by leading the fleet directly into the hillside, causing a massive explosion. Derek does not survive, but is remembered for declairing, "I shall make the Earth my home. And I shall never, never leave it."

An alien spacecraft comes to Earth, while searching the galaxy for a planet suitable to raise "gargons," a lobster-like (but air-breathing) creature which is a delicacy on their homeworld. Thor (Bryan Grant), the lead alien, shows his contempt for Earth's creatures by vaporizing a dog named Sparky. Crewmember Derek (David Love), after discovering an inscription on Sparky's dog tag, fears that the gargon might destroy Earth's local inhabitants, making the other spacemen scoff. Being members of the "supreme race", they disdain "foreign beings," no matter how intelligent and pride themselves that families and friendships are forbidden on their world. Derek turns out to be a member of an underground which commemorates more humane periods of his world's history. Their one gargon seems to be sick in Earth's atmosphere. While his crewmates are distracted, Derek flees. Eventually, the gargon seems to revive. When the Captain reports Derek's actions, he is connected to the Leader (Gene Sterling) himself. It turns out that Derek is the Leader's son, though Derek is unaware of this. Thor is sent to hunt Derek down, with orders to kill to protect the mission. They return to their base, leaving the gargon behind.
Meanwhile, Derek finds the home address found on the dog tag. He meets Betty Morgan (Dawn Anderson) and her Grandpa Joe (Harvey B. Dunn). They have a room to rent, and Derek inadvertently becomes a boarder. When Betty's boyfriend, reporter Joe Rogers (Tom Graeff), can't make their afternoon plans, Derek tags along with Betty. He shows the tag to Betty, who recognizes it immediately. Derek takes her to the place where the ship landed, and shows her Sparky's remains. She doesn't believe him, so he describes Thor's weapon that that vaporizes flesh. Betty takes this surprisingly well and vows to help Derek stop the bad guys. For the rest of the day Betty and Derek have several run-ins with Thor and Joe follows up on stories of skeletons popping up all over town, including in Alice's swimming pool. Eventually Thor is wounded and he kidnaps Betty and Derek for medical attention, he reveals Derek's true parentage. 12 And one Ananias, a devout man according to the law, having a good report of all the Jews which dwelt there,
13 Came unto me, and stood, and said unto me, Brother Saul, receive thy sight. And the same hour I looked up upon him.
14 And he said, The God of our fathers hath chosen thee, that thou shouldest know his will, and see that Just One, and shouldest hear the voice of his mouth.
15 For thou shalt be his witness unto all men of what thou hast seen and heard.
16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.
17 And it came to pass, that, when I was come again to Jerusalem, even while I prayed in the temple, I was in a trance;
18 And saw him saying unto me, Make haste, and get thee quickly out of Jerusalem: for they will not receive thy testimony concerning me.
19 And I said, Lord, they know that I imprisoned and beat in every synagogue them that believed on thee:
20 And when the blood of thy martyr Stephen was shed, I also was standing by, and consenting unto his death, and kept the raiment of them that slew him.
21 And he said unto me, Depart: for I will send thee far hence unto the Gentiles.
22 And they gave him audience unto this word, and then lifted up their voices, and said, Away with such a fellow from the earth: for it is not fit that he should live.
23 And as they cried out, and cast off their clothes, and threw dust into the air,
24 The chief captain commanded him to be brought into the castle, and bade that he should be examined by scourging; that he might know wherefore they cried so against him.
25 And as they bound him with thongs, Paul said unto the centurion that stood by, Is it lawful for you to scourge a man that is a Roman, and uncondemned?
26 When the centurion heard that, he went and told the chief captain, saying, Take heed what thou doest: for this man is a Roman.
27 Then the chief captain came, and said unto him, Tell me, art thou a Roman? He said, Yea.
28 And the chief captain answered, With a great sum obtained I this freedom. And Paul said, But I was free born.
29 Then straightway they departed from him which should have examined him: and the chief captain also was afraid, after he knew that he was a Roman, and because he had bound him.
30 On the morrow, because he would have known the certainty wherefore he was accused of the Jews, he loosed him from his bands, and commanded the chief priests and all their council to appear, and brought Paul down, and set him before them.

29 Then straightway they departed from him which should have examined him: and the chief captain also was afraid, after he knew that he was a Roman, and because he had bound him.
30 On the morrow, because he would have known the certainty wherefore he was accused of the Jews, he loosed him from his bands, and commanded the chief priests and all their council to appear, and brought Paul down, and set him before them.

[India], June 20 (ANI). A woman was allegedly gang-raped in a moving car in Sohna, Haryana, before she was thrown out in Greater Noida. An investigation has been launched by the Haryana police. However, no FIR is lodged yet. The woman was found lying on the road near Kasna police station at Greater Noida.
