Woolies to release new series of collector cards

Thought the Aussie Animals craze was over? Think again.

In good news for children addicted to the Aussie Animals collector cards earlier this year, Woolworths plans to release a special edition of ‘Baby Wildlife’ trading cards just in time for Christmas.

The series of 36 cards slots in to the original Aussie Animals collector album and will no doubt go like hot cakes, with Woolies estimating that two in 10 Australian kids already own Collectables albums.

General Manager of Woolworths, Jess Gill, says that the company was “overwhelmed” by the success of the Aussie Animals cards and albums. “Not only did the kids love Aussies Animals but the feedback we received from parents around the country was great,” she said.

It remains to be seen though, whether the new collection will see parents and grandparents shelling out over $100 for complete sets on eBay and Gumtree, as they were at the height of the Aussie Animals cards craze in October.

The Baby Wildlife cards will feature junior Australian animals like baby koalas and baby flying foxes. As with the previous collection, the cards will feature fun and educational facts. Did you know long-nosed bandicoot joeys are the size of a grain of rice when they are born?

The new Baby Wildlife collection arrives at Woolworths supermarkets next Wednesday. Woolworths customers will receive a free pack of four limited edition Baby Wildlife cards with every $20 spent in store or online at woolworths.com.au from December 4 to Christmas Eve.

For those animal enthusiasts who just cannot wait, Woolworths is running a competition to find the most passionate Aussie Animals Collectables Kid.

The national competition will see three lucky winners receive more than 2000 limited edition Baby Wildlife trading cards and their very own animal themed party, complete with animal face painting and a special visit from Taronga Zoo.

To enter fans need to upload a photo of themselves dressed up as their favourite Aussie animal to Instagram with the hashtag “#aussieanimals” and an explanation on why they are the most passionate collector by Tuesday, December 3.
