Rodrigo "Rody" Roa Duterte (born March 28, 1945), nicknamed Digong, is a Filipino lawyer and politician of Visayan descent. Duterte is among the longest-serving mayors in the Philippines. He has been mayor of Davao City, a highly urbanized city on Mindanao island, for 7 terms, totalling more than 22 years. He has also served as vice-mayor and congressman in the city.
On November 21, 2015, Duterte declared his candidacy for President of the Philippines in the upcoming 2016 election after a period of banter.
Duterte was born on March 28, 1945 in Maasin, Leyte in the Philippine Commonwealth to Vicente G. Duterte, who served as Governor of (the then-undivided) Davao and Soledad Roa, a native of Cabadbaran, Agusan who was a school teacher and a civic leader. Duterte's father Vicente, prior to being provincial governor of Davao, was once a mayor of Danao in Cebu. Rodrigo's cousin Ronald, on the other hand, served as Cebu City mayor from 1983 to 1986. Ronald’s father, Ramon Duterte, also held the position from 1957 to 1959. The Dutertes consider the political families of the Durano and the Almendras clan as relatives.
Facebook is a social network service website launched on February 4, 2004. This is a list of software and technology features that can be found on the Facebook website.
On September 6, 2006, Ruchi Sanghvi announced a new home page feature called News Feed. Originally, when users logged into Facebook, they were presented with a customizable version of their own profile. The new layout, by contrast, created an alternative home page in which users saw a constantly updated list of their friends' Facebook activity. News Feed highlights information that includes profile changes, upcoming events, and birthdays, among other updates. This has enabled spammers and other users to manipulate these features by creating illegitimate events or posting fake birthdays to attract attention to their profile or cause. News Feed also shows conversations taking place between the walls of a user's friends. An integral part of the News Feed interface is the Mini Feed, a news stream on the user's profile page that shows updates about that user. Unlike in the News Feed, the user can delete events from the Mini Feed after they appear so that they are no longer visible to profile visitors. In 2011 Facebook updated the News Feed to show top stories and most recent stories in one feed, and the option to highlight stories to make them top stories, as well as to un-highlight stories. In response to users' criticism, Facebook later updated the News Feed to allow users to view recent stories first.
A president is the leader of a country or a division or part of a country, typically a republic, a democracy, or a dictatorship. The title "president" is sometimes used by extension for leaders of other groups, including corporate entities.
Etymologically, a president is one who presides (from Latin prae- "before" + sedere "to sit"; giving the term praeses). Originally, the term referred to the presiding officer of a ceremony or meeting (i.e., chairman), but today it most commonly refers to an executive official. Among other things, "President" today is a common title for the heads of state of most republics, whether presidential republics, semi-presidential republics or parliamentary republics.
The title President is derived from the Latin prae- "before" + sedere "to sit." As such, it originally designated the officer who presides over or "sits before" a gathering and ensures that debate is conducted according to the rules of order (see also chairman and speaker). Early examples are from the universities of Oxford and Cambridge (from 1464) and the founding President of the Royal Society William Brouncker in 1660. This usage survives today in the title of such offices as "President of the Board of Trade" and "Lord President of the Council" in the United Kingdom, as well as "President of the Senate" (one of the roles constitutionally assigned to the Vice-President of the United States). The officiating priest at certain Anglican religious services, too, is sometimes called the "President" in this sense. However the most common modern usage is as the title of a head of state in a republic.
Rodrigo is a Spanish and Portuguese name derived from the Germanic name Roderick (literally "he who is rich in glory"). It may refer to:
Joko "Jokowi" Widodo (Javanese: ꦗꦑ꧈ꦮꦶꦢꦢGêdrìk: Jåkå Widådå; O-Javanese: Jaka Widada; born 21 June 1961) is the President of Indonesia, in office since 2014. Previously he was Mayor of Surakarta from 2005 to 2012 and Governor of Jakarta from 2012 to 2014. He is the first Indonesian president not to have emerged from the country’s political elite or as an army general.
Jokowi was nominated by his party, the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), to run in the 2012 Jakarta gubernatorial election with Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (often known as Ahok) as his running mate. Jokowi was elected as Governor of Jakarta on 20 September 2012 after a second round runoff election in which he defeated the incumbent governor Fauzi Bowo. Jokowi's win was widely seen as reflecting popular voter support for "new" or "clean" leaders rather than the "old" style of politics in Indonesia.
His nomination as PDI-P candidate for the 2014 presidential election was announced on 14 March 2014. The presidential election was held on 9 July 2014. After some controversy about the result of the election, Jokowi was named as president-elect on 22 July. He was formally declared as the winner of the election by the General Elections Commission (Komisi Pemilihan Umum or KPU), winning more than 53% of the vote over his opponent, Prabowo Subianto, who disputed the outcome and withdrew from the race before the count was completed.

It's been about 100 days into the presidency of Rodrigo Duterte. Since he took power, the Philippine president has overseen the killing of more than 3,500 people in his war on drugs, offended world leaders and strained relations with the US. In an exclusive first interview since he was sworn in, we talk to Duterte about his controversial war on drugs and foreign policy - including deteriorating relations with the United States and potentially warming relations with China. "We have three million drug addicts, and it's growing. So if we do not interdict this problem, the next generation will be having a serious problem ... You destroy my country, I'll kill you. And it's a legitimate thing. If you destroy our young children, I will kill you. That is a very correct statement. There is noth...

EXCLUSIVE: Known as the Punisher, Rodrigo Duterte, was a longshot candidate as President of the Philippines. But in May of 2016, he beat out candidates fielded from longtime political dynasties to win - making history. As mayor of Davao for the past 20 years, he has been accused of human rights abuses through the setting up of death squads to kill criminals. Duterte is promising to bring his harsh form of punishment to the rest of the Philippines. It'll make for an interesting time. We spent several weeks with this Daredevil of Davao - our film: Guns, Goons & The Presidency.
GUEST: Nikole Cababa, Deputy Secretary General of Bayan USA. BACKGROUND: The Philippines' new President Rodrigo "The Punisher" Duterte, has come under fire internationally for publicly referring to US president Obama as a "son of a whore." Duterte, who was elected in June, campaigned on a platform of cleaning up the country's drug problem. Before being elected President, he was mayor of Davao city for decades and linked to a death squad responsible for murdering drug users and sellers. Now under his presidency, in the past two months alone, at least 1,300 people have been found dead, many with their heads covered with signs identifying them as drug users or pushers. It was over this killing spree that Duterte defensively lashed out at Obama. The US canceled President Obama's visit with ...

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has said numerous times that he would like to pursue an independent foreign policy. But he has clarified on September 13 that this does not mean cutting alliances with the United States. Two weeks later, on September 26, he said in front of the media that he was “about to cross the Rubicon between (him) and the US.” But in a Q&A; with the media right after that statement, he again clarified that it did not mean breaking ties with Uncle Sam. Less than a month after that assurance, the President announced yesterday in China that he is “separating” from the United States. “Your honors, in this venue, I announce my separation from the United States.”

In the past seven months, over 7,600 people have been killed during Philippines President Duterte’s national crackdown on drugs. More than 2,500 of these deaths were in raids or stings that police said ended in shootouts. Human rights groups have raised concerns about the killings, but Duterte says he cares little for drug dealers. "You bleed for those sons of a bitch. How many? 3,000? I will kill more if only to get rid of drugs and this campaign," he said. “It’s difficult to understand why President Duterte hates drugs so much, but he never stops talking about them,” Dr Tom Smith of the University of Portsmouth, an expert on Filipino politics, told the Thomson Reuters Foundation recently in an interview at London’s Frontline Club. The drug wars made the news again this week when Dute...
