Volkswagen reveal three-door Golf GTI special edition?

Volkswagen is taking its iconic Golf GTI back to where it started with the return of a three-door limited edition.   

Called the Volkswagen Golf GTI Performance Edition 1, the new three-door performance car will be limited to just 150 examples in Australia. 

The highlight of the GTI Performance Edition 1 is that the classic 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine produces higher outputs than the standard car, with power increasing from 169kW to 180kW and torque rising from 350Nm to 370Nm. The Performance Edition 1 also gets the seven-speed DSG auto found in the Golf R rather than a six-speed DSG seen in the standard GTI. 

Other standard gear incluides 19-inch alloy wheels, higher grade LED tail lights, front lock differential, larger disc brakes, fake leather and microfleece upholstery, tinted rear windows and new digital display information.  

The safety front has been boosted to include adapative cruise control, lane keep assist, park assist, blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert. 

Each car also comes with a branded complimentary sports bag, umbrella, cup, folding box and beach towel.

The Volkswagen Golf GTI Performance Edition 1 will go on sale in August at the same time as the standard GTI and Golf R.
