Since John Kerry has endorsed a constitutional amendment to the Massachusetts constitution banning gay marriage (which in affect bans gay marriage for all gays in the U.S. since it is the only state to offer gay marriage) will similar letters be sent to gay staffers on the Kerry/Edwards campaign. I don’t understand why if we are to be so pure we give Kerry a free ride on this. His position is clever but it has the same outcome as Bush’s position. Go Nader!
Funny, I don’t recall John Kerry using gay marriage as a wedge issue to get votes. I do recall the Republican Party forcing Kerry to take a position on gay marriage, but I definitely don’t recall Kerry intentionally using sexual orientation as a political weapon, which is exactly what Mel Martinez is doing. No one is happy with Kerry for supporting the Mass. constitutional amendment, but he’s hardly crowing about that position unlike Martinez who is trying to force others follow his lead.
Nader? Yes, let’s all vote for Nader and help ensure that Bush stays in power and terrorizes the gay community for another 4 years. People like you put Bush in power in the first place and you have the nerve to criticize Kerry.
Great point. This campaign has been established to expose hypocrisy in the FEDERAL MARRIAGE AMENDMENT battle on capital hill.
I think the connection is very simple. Kirk gets millions for Mel. Mel and Kirk spend the money buying ads that are very anti-gay. Mel opened up his campaign with some of the most homophobic ads of 2004. Kirk is gay, but Mel doesn’t know or care. Kirk lives a very comfortable life in a wealthy DC neighborhood with his partner. If elected, it’s highly likely that Mel would offer Kirk a senior position in the Senate (these things just work like that). Kirk would then be an openly-gay man working on a very anti-gay agenda.
Kirk can do whatever he pleases, but I think it’s great that someone is calling him out for trading his life for the lives of millions of gay Americans.
I don’t think people understand that this is a simple human rights issue. I thought the Inquisition was cute, and so were the Nazis, but I thought we were over this. Why do people insist on treating people who are different than them so badly? I forgot that the Constitution called for the unity of Church and State I am gay, black, Jewish and female…and pro choice. Since I am, I am glad that this is America and I am free to be just that. Isn’t this…America? As we go to spread Democracy in a place that probably won’t hang on to it very long, we forget that human rights are important right here at home too. I remember a nation of people that sat in disbelief when the Taliban treated women so poorly. Well, what’s the difference here? The Pope speaks out against gay marriage, abortion and, well, basically human rights all over the world. I don’t think he is a very nice guy. Don’t let the cute hat fool you. I mean, I think the Pope looks good in a dress…don’t get me wrong…but, who the hell does he think he is? How dare he tell my wife not to have an abortion? How dare he tell my wife she can’t marry our friend Barbara-of course after our divorce, this ain’t Utah. Bush is an evil and wicked, and the man belongs in prison, not in the White House. Cheney’s foul mouth should be in prison next to him and someone in prison should put something in Cheney’s mouth so he doesn’t say such foul things (He’s a real pig). Forget all of Bush’s war crimes; he should share a cell with Ken Lay just for the SEC fraud alone. Remember what the Republicans did when Clinton got a little nookie in the White House-there was a outcry by the Right Wing Extremists (they are really terrorists too-fine, no sheets over their heads, but they’re using the Quran, I mean the Bible for evil) for impeachment. Where is the outcry now that Bush is screwing the whole nation? With this regime in office, I forget what country and what year this is, and I’m not gay. I am human. Hopefully, like you.
Look at Priests today- eeesh! I can see why the Church would be against homosexuality—no wait, I can’t- how does the Bible go? Man can’t lie down with man but Priest and boy, that’s cool. Hey, there’s no {Adam’s} “apple” to deal with. Better for the Church goers anyway-no one needs another apple story—Hey, I’m Catholic, I don’t actually read the Bible-I just use it to breed bigotry—I actually heard it’s a page turner. I love fiction. I went to buy a Bible but I couldn’t find one. The Mystery section was pretty big though. Anyway, my last comment is that it’s really sad that we are still fighting for such simple rights in America. Get the Bible out of the White House, it doesn’t belong. A union between two people that love each other is a blessing and a wonderful thing. That’s what God intended. I don’t think HE could ask for anything more, why should we? No offense to the Democrats and Left Winger’s who believe more in what Jesus himself believed (Love and tolerance for all) than Bush and his cronies, (which just gives me a sidesplitting laugh) but this ban and all this crap with the amendment, is really going to put an end to this homo fad thing once and for all. Then we can all get on with our man/woman lives. Blond hair anyone?

Kerry echoes Bush that gay marriage is wrong and supports an amendment to the Constitution of th eonly state in the country with gay marriage that would in effect end gay marriage everwhere in the U.S. If we are going to be calling gay employees of anti-gay politician how can you possibly leave out Kerry???? After all he has the HRC endorsement as well as the support of most of the gay community and he won’t even publicly state that gays deserve the rights of all Americans, including in his own state! Cinton took gay votes and gay money too and then when elected signed the two most anti-gay federal laws in U.S. history. Why are you giving Kerry a free pass?

I got a few calls after the program. Since it was FOX, I was a caught a little off guard, so I’m glad you think I did well.
How many votes against FMA has this campaign generated? It is really sad to see us go down the road of Kenneth Starr, et. al. Big deal if you out these guys, they don’t have a vote in the House or Senate and I bet sexual orientation once again becomes a hiring issue by offices who are “afraid” of having a staffer sex life become an issue. Does that advance ENDA or defeat FMA? How does focusing on a Senate committee staffer get to these issues? Its a total distraction and I think the only people smiling more than those behind this are the right wing lunatics who want to purge gay people where ever they may– especially within their own offices… gasp!!!
This campaign is not about changing any votes… Once a member (House or Senate) has gone on the record with their intent to vote, we then expose hypocrisy in the United States.
It’s absolutely ridiculous, from our perspective, to expect that folks will be able to enjoy the safety of the community’s silence; while they work for the self declared enemies of gay and lesbian America.
