Ya ya I know. I made a comment about Barbra Steele looking like Michael Jackson in my Piranha review. I now wish to blame this on makeup and wardrobe for that movie. I still regret that statement though.

0 being terrible and 5 being great. I will have some films going beyond 5 or below 0 (into the negative region) depending on how far the movie buries the needle. This should indicate if the movie is a must watch or must avoid.

FILM DESCRIPTION:
Although Roger Corman narrowly managed to avoid self-mockery in his pulpy, flamboyant adaptations of Edgar Allan Poe tales, it appears that the director chose this opportunity to let loose with outright parody; the result is a wonderfully entertaining romp with tongue planted firmly in cheek. The first screen teaming of legendary horror stars Boris Karloff, Vincent Price, and Peter Lorre -- later billed as "The Triumvirate of Terror" -- this so-called "adaptation" uses Poe's most famous poem as a springboard for Grand Guignol comedy from scriptwriter Richard Matheson. Melancholy magician Erasmus Craven (Price), having recently relinquished his membership in the Brotherhood of Sorcerers after the apparent death of his wife Lenore (Hazel Court), is paid a visit by a foul-mouthed talking raven, claiming to be small-time wizard Adolphus Bedlo (Lorre). After some persuasion, Craven returns Bedlo to human form, reversing a spell placed by the evil Dr. Scarabus (Karloff), Craven's chief rival. After learning that a woman bearing a strong likeness to Lenore was seen in the Doctor's company, Craven accompanies Bedlo to Scarabus' castle, where the resulting battle of wills escalates into all-out magical warfare between the two embittered sorcerers. Corman and company relished the opportunity to poke fun at the staid Poe series, and the distinguished leads contribute to the spirit of fun by lampooning their own cinematic reputations. Fans of Jack Nicholson (who cut his acting teeth on this and other AIP productions) should enjoy his melodramatic performance here as Bedlo's straight-arrow son; Nicholson would later co-star with Karloff in Corman's The Terror, which was shot in two days using the same sets!

The Ghost (1963 film)
The Ghost (Italian title: Lo Spettro) is a 1963 Italian horror film directed by Riccardo Freda, using the pseudonym "Robert Hampton". The film stars Barbara Steele and Peter Baldwin. Other titles for the film include The Spectre and Lo Spettro del Dr. Hichcock.
Plot
In 1910 Scotland, the ailing Dr. Hichcock (Elio Jotta) presides over a seance in which his housekeeper, Catherine (Harriet Medin), is the medium. Hichcock's wife, Margaret (Barbara Steele), is having an affair with Dr. Livingstone (Peter Baldwin). She persuades her lover to murder her husband.
During the distribution of Hichcock's estate, Catherine and Livingstone receive very little. Learning that the key to the doctor's safe was buried with him, they secretly open his grave to retrieve it. The safe is empty. Margaret and Livingstone hear Hichcock's voice calling to them, and experience poltergeist phenomena. Margaret eventually learns from these encounters that Hichcock's fortune is buried beneath his coffin. She returns to the grave but only an empty box is found beneath the casket. Catherine, apparently possessed, tells Margaret that Livingstone has taken the jewels for himself. Margaret lures her lover into a cellar and murders him.

Ya ya I know. I made a comment about Barbra Steele looking like Michael Jackson in my Piranha review. I now wish to blame this on makeup and wardrobe for that movie. I still regret that statement though. Rating: 5.1/5 0 being terrible and 5 being great. I will have some films going beyond 5 or below 0 (into the negative region) depending on how far the movie buries the needle. This should indicate if the movie is a must watch or must avoid.

After some persuasion, Craven returns Bedlo to human form, reversing a spell placed by the evil Dr. Scarabus (Karloff), Craven's chief rival. After learning that a woman bearing a strong likeness to Lenore was seen in the Doctor's company, Craven accompanies Bedlo to Scarabus' castle, where the resulting battle of wills escalates into all-out magical warfare between the two embittered sorcerers. Corman and company relished the opportunity to poke fun at the staid Poe series, and the distinguished leads contribute to the spirit of fun by lampooning their own cinematic reputations. Fans of Jack Nicholson (who cut his acting teeth on this and other AIP productions) should enjoy his melodramatic performance here as Bedlo's straight-arrow son; Nicholson would later co-star with Karloff in Corman's The Terror, which was shot in two days using the same sets!
