Paul Joseph Brady (born 19 May 1947) is an Irish singer-songwriter, whose work straddles folk and pop. He was interested in a wide variety of music from an early age. He initially collaborated with several major bands, prior to launching a successful solo career.
Initially popular for playing traditional Irish music in a duo with Andy Irvine and later with Tommy Peoples and Matt Molloy, he later turned to a more rock-inspired electric style with poignant political lyrics. Some of his most popular songs are: "Crazy Dreams", "Nothing but the Same Old Story", "The Island", "Night Hunting", "Steel Claw", and "Paradise is Here".
Brady was born in the small town of Strabane in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, on the border with County Donegal, Republic of Ireland. His father Seán Brady was a music teacher teaching the flute. Brady was educated at Sion Mills Primary School, St. Columb's College, Derry and University College Dublin. He is prominently featured in the documentary film The Boys of St. Columb's.

Definitive version of Paul Brady's classic. I had to reduce it to under 100 MB to fit it all onto one file. Well worth it though.....
They say the skies of Lebanon are burning Those mighty cedars bleeding in the heat They're showing pictures on the television Women and children dying in the street And we're still at it in our own place Still trying to reach the future through the past Still trying to carve tomorrow from a tombstone... Chorus But Hey! Don't listen to me! This wasn't meant to be no sad song We've heard too much of that before Right now I only want to be here with you Till the morning dew comes falling I want to take you to the island And trace your footprints in the sand And in the evening when the sun goes down We'll make love to the sound of the ocean They're raising banners over by the markets Whitewashing slogans on the shipyard walls Witchdoctors praying for a...

Irish artist Paul Brady - Crazy Dreams From The 1979 Album , "Hard Station"
This song was written by Seán McBride in about 1955. Seán was a native of Cruit island which is in the Rosses area of Donegal (West Donegal). He was a school Teacher at St.Baithins school in the Carrigans/St.Johnston area (East Donegal) for most of his life. Seán passed away at the age of 90 in August 1996 and is buried on Cruit Island. Seán only wrote the lyrics, the actual air itself is maybe 150 or more years old. There are many songs around using the same melody, but to my ears the closest one is a song called "The Faughan Side", This song was part of the Curriculum in national schools in East Donegal and as Seán was a Teacher in the "Laggan Valley" (South Inishowen) I'm pretty sure that is where he got his inspiration for the "Homes of Donegal". This version by Paul Brady is fro...

1975 – forerunners of Ireland’s dynamic trad-folk movement of the early 70s Planxty has imploded. Paul Brady had joined the band to replace the departing Christy Moore. It was to be an exciting twist for Ireland’s most exciting band – a new powerful voice to bolster the ensemble’s incredible momentum. But sadly Brady never got to record with Planxty. Fatigue and financial difficulties brought the band to a standstill. “It was a great relief,” admits Andy Irvine. “We adjourned to Madigan’s pub in Donnybrook. We drank to the demise of Planxty, looked at each other and said, ‘’So what do we do now? Since Paul and myself had struck up a particular friendship we decided to stick together and become a duo.” Together Andy Irvine and Paul Brady made an eponymously-titled album, released in 1976 ...

The last time I saw you
Was the spring of '75
And way back then I was afraid
to look you in the eye
Yes even then I found it hard to
To look you in the eye
Come a running to me with your soul in your hand
Like a child who knew no fear
With such a need to be alive
I was scared to get too near
With such a need to be alive
I was scared to get too near
You burned so bright into the night
A dancer in the fire
I wished I had your nerve back then
But I was scared to walk the wire
Yes i was scared to walk the wire
I was afraid to walk the wire
And now it's three years later
You're still eager for the game
But your eyes can't hide the times you tried
To live too near too the flame
Your eyes can't hide the tears you cried
When you got too near the flame.
But to you it makes no difference
Just how many times you fall
For you've seen the freedom through the flame
And you can't resist the call . . .
you've seen the freedom through the flame
And you want to taste it all
You burn so bright into the night
A dancer in the fire
I wish I had your nerve right now
But I'm still scared to walk the wire
Yes I'm still scared to walk the wire
I'm still afraid to walk the wire
The last time I saw you
Was the spring of '75
And way back then I was afraid
Of dancing in the fire
And even now I can't reach out
