Yorkshire (/ˈjɔːrkʃər/ or /ˈjɔːrkʃɪər/) is a historic county of Northern England and the largest in the United Kingdom. Due to its great size in comparison to other English counties, functions have been undertaken over time by its subdivisions, which have also been subject to periodic reform. Throughout these changes, Yorkshire has continued to be recognised as a geographical territory and cultural region. The name is familiar and well understood across the United Kingdom and is in common use in the media and the military, and also features in the titles of current areas of civil administration such as North Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire and East Riding of Yorkshire.
Within the borders of the historic county of Yorkshire are areas which are widely considered to be among the greenest in England, due to the vast stretches of unspoiled countryside in the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors and to the open aspect of some of the major cities. Yorkshire has sometimes been nicknamed "God's Own County" or "God's Own Country".
The Tour de Yorkshire is a three-day road cycling race in Yorkshire, England. The first edition was held on 1–3 May 2015. It is promoted by the Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO) and is rated as a 2.1 event as part of the UCI Europe Tour.
The idea for the race arose as a legacy event following the significant success of the visit of the 2014 Tour de France to the county. The first two stages of the 2014 Tour, also organised by ASO, from Leeds to Harrogate, and York to Sheffield, were nicknamed Le Tour de Yorkshire.
The dates of the inaugural event were announced in September 2014, and the route for the event was published in January 2015.
British Cycling rejected an application by the organisers Welcome to Yorkshire and ASO to increase the race to four days for 2016.
The Joker is Wild was the second album released by Alex Harvey after the demise of The Soul Band. The album was released in 1972. Some time after 1972 the album The Joker Is Wild was reissued and repackaged, the album song listings stayed the same, but the album was credited as being made by "The Sensational Alex Harvey Band" even though this band did not exist at the time, and the title was changed to This Is.
The album was recorded at Regent Sound Studio, London in early 1972. These songs are unfinished demos only, recorded for a Spanish singer named Tony Caldeira (who wrote "The Joker Is Wild" and "Silhouette and Shadow"). Alex was teaching Tony vocal delivery and phrasing. Alex received a cheque for the session which subsequently bounced. The producer, Paul Murphy, sold the tapes to Metronome Records in Germany and they issued the LP as The Joker Is Wild in 1972. This Is SAHB is a low budget reissue of "Joker" intended to cash in on SAHB's success (even though Zal, Chris, Ted and Hugh weren't involved with the recordings). The photo of SAHB on the sleeve features keyboard player John Martin on the far left.
The Tour de France (French pronunciation: [tuʁ də fʁɑ̃s]) is an annual multiple stage bicycle race primarily held in France, while also occasionally making passes through nearby countries. The race was first organized in 1903 to increase paper sales for the magazine L'Auto; it is currently run by the Amaury Sport Organisation. The race has been held annually since its first edition in 1903 except when it was stopped for the two World Wars. As the Tour gained prominence and popularity the race was lengthened and its reach began to extend around the globe. Participation expanded from a primarily French field, as riders from all over the world began to participate in the race each year. The Tour is a UCI World Tour event, which means that the teams that compete in the race are mostly UCI WorldTeams, with the exception of the teams that the organizers invite.
The Tour de France, the Giro d'Italia and Vuelta a España make up cycling's prestigious, three-week-long Grand Tours; the Tour is the oldest and generally considered the most prestigious of the three. Traditionally, the race is held primarily in the month of July. While the route changes each year, the format of the race stays the same with the appearance of time trials, the passage through the mountain chains of the Pyrenees and the Alps, and the finish on the Champs-Élysées in Paris. The modern editions of the Tour de France consist of 21 day-long segments (stages) over a 23-day period and cover around 3,500 kilometres (2,200 mi). The race alternates between clockwise and counterclockwise circuits of France.

http://pages.rapha.cc/rides/yorkshire Come and ride in Yorkshire, they said. We’ll explore: the Howardian Hills, the North York Moors, and the Yorkshire Dales. It would be a first for me, but exploring on a bicycle isn’t something that comes naturally to a bike racer, former or not. It is a skill that has to be learned, like patience or golf. Like many bike racers, I’ve always looked at riding a bike in the same way that I would go about robbing a bank: get in, get the job done, get out as quickly as possible and change out of your disguise.
Filmed with one DSLR and a tripod over a long and sometimes snowy winter, 'This is Yorkshire' gives a taste of some of the best blocs that 'the Shire' has to offer. This film gives a summer fix of well known and esoteric grit stone problems, to keep us going until next winter. Bouldering in the U.K doesn't get any better. Enjoy! Scarborough has been popular since the Iron Age - when the first fortification was built on the headland that divides the North and South Bays. The Romans also chose the headland for a military base and it was last attacked during WWI by the Germans who shelled the town in WWI. Its long history includes monasteries and the discovery of spa water, that brought the first 'tourists' for water cures: making it the first place in Britain to have bathing machines! With the arrival of the railway in the 1840s its place was assured as a holiday resort - a claim it still has today. Geoff Druett covers the town from the port to the castle, from South Bay to North Bay - showing how much more there is to Scarborough than the beach!
